Run by a team of two brothers, Muthu’s Curry is most known for their Michelin-approved fish head curry, made with a secret family recipe. Founded in the late 1960s by the owners’ late father, the restaurant is also popular for serving legit Southern Indian food, including swimmer crabs, tandoori chicken, and masala prawns.

Muthu’s Curry’s OG outlet, a six-minute walk from Farrer Park MRT Station, is a spacious 300-seater venue featuring a contemporary open kitchen with tandoor ovens. The restaurant also clinched a mention in the 2018 Michelin Bib Gourmand list, further solidifying their reputation as one of the best Indian fish head curry eateries on the island.

In addition to its Race Course Road location, Muthu’s Curry has two more outlets—one at Suntec City Mall and another at Dempsey Road.

Their iconic Fish Head Curry ($32++) boasts a spicier flavour profile compared to other renditions in Singapore. The gravy is also accentuated by the vibrant tang of tamarind. The dish incorporates a secret blend of spices known only to the two brothers, who personally mix them before handing it to the chefs who prepare the curry. Here, customers have the option to choose from sea bream, sea bass, or red snapper for their protein.

Other highlights on the menu include Masala Chicken ($16++), Masala Prawns ($17++), and Muthu’s Curry Chukka Varuval ($17++)—boneless chicken stir-fried with onions, seasoned with a piquant house-made chilli paste.

If you’re getting food to share, we recommend the Tandoori Platter ($45++), which gets you a generous mix of chicken chunks, fish, tiger prawns, and paneer, AKA Indian cottage cheese. Try the Lamb Rack Ananas ($25++) too, featuring succulent lamb racks marinated with fresh pineapples and rich spices.

On weekends and public holidays, Muthu’s Curry offers dine-in specials such as Hyderabadi Mutton Biryani ($19++) and Nattu Kozhi Biryani ($18++). The former features a fragrant blend of fresh ground spices and long-grained basmati rice, while the latter sees slow-cooked chicken also served with basmati, accompanied by raita, AKA Indian yoghurt, and chicken gravy on the side.

For those who can’t resist a bowl of cheesy paneer, we recommend ordering a side of Mutter Paneer Masala ($14++) for a creamy mix of cottage cheese and green peas. If you’re in the mood for something spicy, try the Chilli Paneer ($14++) instead, featuring fresh paneer cubes stir-fried with capsicum and dried chilli for more oomph.
