With four locations islandwide, Big Mouth Mala Hotpot is no stranger to mala lovers in Singapore. Known for their relatively affordable prices, punchy flavours and fresh ingredients, Big Mouth Mala Hotpot is definitely a place you can head to to satisfy your mala cravings. If you’re just feeling peckish, you can order side dishes such as xiao long bao, dubbed Shanghai Juicy Steamed Buns ($6 for five pieces), or Pork and Cabbage Dumplings ($7 for 10 pieces).

ICG Chicken & Burger is a Korean fried chicken and burger franchise that first opened in 2016. Priced from $9.90 for six pieces, their classic Korean fried chicken comes in flavours such as Spicy Gangjung, Cheese and Garlic Soy. Those feeling more adventurous can try the Jalapeno, which is a Mexican-inspired sauce served with pickled chilli slices. If you’d like something with more carbs, have their Garlic Soy Burger ($7.50), or Incredible Chicken Rice ($7). While the former stars a garlic soy fried chicken patty, chopped lettuce, pickles and onions sandwiched between two fluffy burger buns, the latter features chicken chunks in the flavour of your choice and scrambled eggs, served atop a bed of white rice.

Helmed by Chef Tony Wong, former head of Michelin-starred Lei Garden, East Bistro serves up authentic Hong Kong dim sum and Cantonese cuisine. A must-try is Crispy Rice with Crab in Superior Soup (market price), a pao fan dish which comprises rice and a whole crab submerged in a rich seafood broth. Many also rave about their Sweet And Sour Pork On Ice ($20++), where stir-fried pork and vegetables are served hot atop a bed of ice. Interestingly, this forms a thin candied layer around the pork for extra crunch! Those craving dim sum can also try the “Mushroom” Char Siew Bao ($4.80++), featuring char siew bao made to look like mushrooms.

Waa Cow! Yakiniku is a grill-it-yourself concept by long-standing local gyudon restaurant Waa Cow. Similar to their donburi chain, their yakiniku concept boasts a variety of quality beef cuts at relatively affordable prices. Sample a range of cuts with their value-for-money combo plates such as Karubi and Striploin ($15.90++) and Karubi and Gyutan ($17.90++), or add the Pork and Chicken ($9.90++) for some variation. To make your meal even better, enjoy these meats with their Signature All Dips Platter ($3.90++), which comprises seven different sauces including Garlic Butter Teriyaki, Ponzu Negi, Mentaiko and Sweet Sukiyaki With Raw Egg. Diners can also top up $5++ to make the meal a set, which comes with one bowl of rice, a spicy miso and leek relish, and a drink of their choice.

The Kind Bowl offers Vietnamese fare made entirely from plant-based ingredients. One recommended dish is their vegan-friendly banh mi, the Saigon Delight ($17.20). The star of this sandwich is the OMNI luncheon meat, paired with cold-cut faux Vietnamese ham, a barbecued soy slice, house-made walnut mushroom paste, and fresh pickles and herbs. Those who are craving noodles can order The Kind Pho ($11.80) instead, which puts a vegan spin on classic pho. Hajime Tonkatsu and Ramen is operated by Chef Tan-San, pioneering chef of tonkatsu restaurants Tampopo and Tonkichi. A must-try here is the Nagoya Miso Fillet ($16.90++), which stars air-flown Japanese pork fillet coated in freshly made bread crumbs, dressed with a sauce made from Nagoya-imported miso paste.
