Get $1.90 Chicken Rice At Nguan Express 88’s New Jurong West Stall

Nguan Express 88 has $1.90 chicken rice in Jurong West

Everywhere you look in Singapore, food prices seem to be going up—except at Nguan Express 88. The stall first made waves as a standalone hawker stall in Ang Mo Kio, where its $1.90 Chicken Rice quickly earned it a reputation as one of the most affordable plates in Singapore.

At a time when a typical hawker meal easily sets you back $5 or more, the AMK stall drew curious diners and long queues in equal measure. Now, the brand has officially opened a new outlet in Jurong West, with the same wallet-friendly prices.

When we visited Nguan Express 88 earlier this year, we were genuinely surprised by how decent the chicken rice was for the price. The rice was moist and fragrant, served with a generous portion of thinly sliced chicken and a packet of chilli sauce on the side, which we’d recommend drizzling liberally over everything to bring it all together.

As for the chicken, it wasn’t the most tender cut, but for $1.90, it’s hard to find fault.

Besides their chicken rice, you can also get Char Siew Rice for $1.90, or Economy Beehoon for just $0.50.

For something more substantial, go for their Economy Rice (from $2.50) with a variety of ingredients to choose from, including the usual suspects such as roasted chicken, soy sauce chicken, tofu, eggs, seasonal vegetables and more. There’s also Curry Chicken ($5) and Pork Trotter ($5) for those seeking a heartier meal.

The queue at the AMK outlet was long when we visited during lunch, but it moved quickly, and we were done in under 15 minutes. You can expect the Jurong West outlet to be just as popular, so it’s worth heading down early to avoid the lunch hour rush.
