Avid cafe hoppers might be familiar with Old Hen Kitchen, a long-standing cafe and bistro that’s been open in the Farrer Park neighbourhood since 2014. Recently, they unveiled Poonsti, a new concept that specialises in rosti-based dishes.Â
With a trim, focused menu of just five items, Poonsti prides itself on serving fresh, high-quality rosti handmade in small batches daily.

Prices start from $12+, with their most pared-down dish being the Sour Cream And Chives ($12+). Putting the rosti centre stage, this dish is served with just a dollop of sour cream and topped with chopped chives.Â

The highlights of Poonsti’s menu are their House Cured Salmon ($19+) and Bacon ($18+) rosti. The former features a layer of ricotta cheese and house-cured salmon, garnished with fried capers, pickled onion, dill, and a drizzle of extra-virgin olive oil.

The latter, on the other hand, is a breakfast-inspired rosti starring house-cured bacon, hot tomato jam, cream cheese, pickled radish, and finished with a fried sunny-side-up.

Health-conscious foodies can consider having the Smashed Avo ($17+), which comprises mashed avocado, basil pesto cream, mango salsa, fried shallots and an egg served atop a rosti.

If you’re looking for an extra dose of protein, treat yourself to the Country Style Beef Sausage ($17+), which comes with a house-made brown sauce, sour cream and chives.Â
Get there early if you want to avoid disappointment, as Poonsti opens at 9:30am and closes when they sell out. They operate out of the same space as their parent company, though, so latecomers can still enjoy bites and coffee from Old Hen Kitchen.Â
Located just a short five-minute walk from Farrer Park MRT Station, Poonsti finds itself among other hip cafes that you can also check out, including CAFE REN and Three Cheers Patisserie. Alternatively, take a look at our guide to the best rosti in Singapore for affordable rosti from $5.50!Â
