In recent months, we’ve noticed that more bread connoisseurs are expressing interest in Korean bakeries. If you’re one of them bread fans, here’s a piece of good news: Sagwadang has a pop-up till 7 April 2024 at Bugis Junction with a selection of their famous apple pies from Korea!
“Sagwa” translates to apple, so it’s no surprise that apple pies are the specialty here. There are three different flavours to choose from: Original ($4.90), Vanilla ($5.40), and Milk Cream ($5.40).
We tried the signature pie first. The palm-sized Original Apple Pie featured a crispy pastry packed with a mildly sweet and juicy filling made with apple chunks and spices.
For the best experience, we paired it with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Before consuming, we recommend putting it in the air fryer for about two minutes at 175 degrees Celsius to get a lovely hot-cold combination. If you don’t have any ice cream at home, drizzle some maple syrup instead!
Then, we tried the Vanilla Apple Pie which comprised a generous layer of smooth vanilla cream within, paired with apple chunks. This was sweeter than the Original one, and the cream was a custard of sorts that was melt-in-your-mouth soft.
Koreans love pastries with milk cream, and so Sagwadang came through with their Milk Cream Apple Pie. We’ve never seen this combination in Singapore, so we recommend it if you enjoy something milky and creamy.
The milk cream may seem a tad much, but worry not as you still get a good amount of apple filling to balance it out.
During our visit, my colleague and I also got to meet Heebab, a famous mukbang YouTuber with more than a million subscribers. We were told that she’s currently visiting Singapore as Sagwadang’s brand ambassador!
The pop-up booth is located in front of MINISO and the side entrance of InterContinental Hotel on level one.
Their apple pies will be here for a good time, not a long time, so make your way down before 7 April!
