Virtual Singapore Food Festival 2020 Has Over 15 Free Masterclasses On Pastries, Ribs And More

Guide to virtual Singapore Food Festival 2020

Covid-19 has changed so many aspects of our lives, but for us Singaporeans, the love for food is unwavering. This year, foodies can still expect quality food and fun at the Singapore Food Festival 2020, which is happening virtually for the first time this year. This event will span over two weekends, from 21 to 23 and 28 to 30 August 2020. Here’s a sampling of the activities to expect:

Skip the physical queues and crowds and enjoy a list of islandwide-delivered food and kits via SingaporeFoodFestival.sg and Shopee, straight to your doorstep starting from 13 August. Online festival-goers can expect a reputable selection of mouth-watering dishes, as well as great beverage options and SFF exclusive merchandise.

Since we are stuck at home, we can also make the most of our time indoors by participating in over 15 masterclasses available online. Taught by the best chefs in their field, these virtual lessons will happen live, and are completely free.

I feel that the best recipes are those that are simple enough to follow and easy enough to cook up again and again. On 22 August, Singapore’s food ambassador, Violet Oon, will be cooking up a spicy storm with dishes such as Udang Masak Lemak Nanas and Ayam Goreng Chilli. This is accompanied by her personal tips and tricks of working with sambal chilli, which will rid the fuss of a mortar and pestle, as well as an overwhelming smorgasbord of spices.

If the Circuit Breaker has finally pushed you into the direction of the baking from scratch at home, the National Day Eclairs class is the one to sign up for. Fans of the delicate and delectable pastries from Tarte by Cheryl Koh will be happy to know that the award-winning chef will be sharing her efficacious techniques of éclair-making in this masterclass on 23 August.

The Singapore Food Festival is tailored to be an interactive event. Go hands-on by purchasing an ingredient box for your choice of masterclass on Shopee. Subsequently, all the ingredients that you need for that class will be sent directly to you. You will then be able to cook along with Violet Oon, Cheryl Koh, and famous chefs such as Dave Pynt of Burnt Ends, Julien Royer of Odette and more.

Check out the full list of masterclasses on this page, and make a mark on your calendar for those that you’re interested in! The first 90 participants to pre-book a live masterclass session with an ingredient box purchase will receive a Singapore Food Festival Box containing exclusive food merchandise.

Other than the masterclasses, there will also be virtual food tours hosted by beloved Singaporean actor Chua Enlai and our local tour guides. He will be bringing us around the culturally rich estates of Katong, Joo Chiat, Chinatown, and Tanjong Pagar, which all have much to offer in terms of food to eat and sights to see.

So pick one of the weekends and plan a mini food-themed gathering at home. Don’t forget to keep the safe management measures in place, and invite only five of your best food kakis for an undoubtedly fun time of feasting and/or cooking!
