Song Kee Eating House: Famous Fishball Noodle Stall With Handmade Fish Dumplings

Song Kee Eating House at Yio Chu Kang

The name Song Kee Eating House comes up frequently in conversations about the best fishball noodles in Singapore, but you’d be forgiven for stating its location incorrectly. The stall has shifted several times, and to add to the confusion, its original location was taken over by a cousin and rebranded as Finest Song Kee Fishball Noodles.

Song Kee Eating House is tucked away in a quaint corner of Yio Chu Kang, and gives off vibes similar to a Malaysian eatery. It’s a short bus ride away from Serangoon MRT Station.

Despite being a fishball noodle stall, Song Kee’s claim to fame is their handmade fish dumpling. Its chewy and savoury fish paste skin, not to mention the juicy minced pork on the inside, greatly improves a bowl of fishball noodles.

Song Kee’s Fishball Noodles can be ordered dry or in soup, and come in three different sizes at $5, $7, and $9. Like most fishball noodle stalls, you’ll have a choice of noodles, including mee pok and mee kia. The noodles are typically QQ and, should you order the dish with chilli, pack a fiery and savoury punch, too.

Aside from the dumplings, fishballs and tau pok feature in each bowl as well. The fishballs in particular are great quality as well—they are often springy and not unpleasantly fishy.
