Space Coffee: New Hidden Cafe With Gula Melaka French Toast And More

Space Coffee has Asian-inspired brunch near Paya Lebar MRT Station

I’ve dreamt of opening my own cafe in Singapore, but this country is so saturated with them that it’d be hard to stand out. As it turns out, Space Coffee is a cafe that recently popped up in the East, with fusion brunch options that truly set them apart from the rest.

Unrelated to Space Cafe in Johor Bahru, this cafe embodies industrial minimalism with its limewashed walls, chic chairs, and wooden furniture. You’ll want to chill here with your friends all day or huddle up in a corner as you work in peace. There’s free WiFi, and even charging points here.

If you’re feeling peckish, try their Space C.C ($15++), or Space Coffee’s take on chai tow kueh. While it is a little pricier than at your average hawker stall, it won’t disappoint with its thick slabs of eggy carrot cake that are said to be fluffy with crisp edges.

It’s stir-fried with Madeira sauce, plump sweet prawns, and savoury chye poh. Have this with their house-made sambal chilli that’s tangy and spicy.

For other breakfast choices, consider the Brioche French ($13++) for slices of rich, eggy brioche, soaked in egg and fried to a crisp golden finish. It comes sandwiching a spread of chocolate and hazelnut, as well as gula melaka sauce for an Asian spin. Otherwise, try the Vege Brekkie ($24++) which features avocado, a mixed salad, mushrooms, and a fried egg on sourdough toast, topped off with halloumi cheese, house-made butter, and hollandaise sauce.

For something more substantial, order the fragrant and earthy Truffle Mushroom Pasta ($19++) or locally inspired Prawn Laksa Pasta ($20++).

Drinks-wise, you have to try their White ($6++) and other coffee drinks. They source high-quality coffee beans that make for aromatic and robust coffee. Alternatively, you can get non-coffee options such as Lemon Plum Sour ($6++), that’s a twist on the traditional asam boi, and Matcha Latte ($6++).

You can have these drinks with their fresh bakes as well, which includes Banana Cake ($5++), Coconut Bun ($4++), and Shio Pan ($5++).

If you’d like more cafe options, read our guide to the best cafes in Singapore for brunch and dessert. Alternatively, check out Takagi Coffee, a newly opened Japanese cafe in Tanjong Pagar, with mochi french toast and loaded sandos!
