Highly raved cafe SYIP, known for their creative brunch menu and aesthetic interiors, has opened a second outlet at the Luzerne Building, just a five-minute walk from Bendemeer MRT Station. Featuring a revamped menu, this new cafe offers hearty mains and sides, as well as delectable tarts and cakes.
While the new outlet is notably more spacious compared to its Farrer Park counterpart, it does not stray away from the minimalist-industrial aesthetic that the brand is known for. Think floor-to-ceiling windows, metallic grey furnishings, and touches of greenery tastefully placed around the space for that #ootd photo-op.
Expect brunch fare with the likes of the Breakfast Tart ($21++) and Shimeji Mushroom Fritters ($12++), among more substantial mains such as the Octopus Mentaiko Rosti ($23++), which features a potato rosti dressed with mentaiko mayo, bonito flakes, and ikura, topped with a charred octopus leg. On our visit, we found the octopus to be thick and juicy, with a smoky aroma.
Dig into SYIP’s new selection of mains, including the Tiger Shellfish Squid Ink Linguine ($22++) and Wagyu Beef Rice Dish ($22++). A notable mention is the Mentaiko Shrimp Burger ($20++), which sees a substantial shrimp patty topped with mentaiko dressing, and sandwiched between two burger buns. The burger is also packed with pickles and lettuce, and served with savoury chips on the side.
End your meal on a sweet note with the cafe’s signature OG Kahlua Tiramisu ($12++), or try their new lineup of sweet treats such as the Kaya Butter French Toast ($17++) and Black Sesame Croffle ($15++).
Daily bakes are also available for order at the counter. We had the Hojicha Cheesecake ($9++), a creamy confection with notable earthy notes and a moist centre.
Wash all that nosh down with their specialty coffee, including the Cold Hojicha Goma ($7++) and Syip Black Coffee ($6.50++). If you love lattes, try the Signature Milk series, featuring a selection of milk-based coffee such as Black Cocoa ($6++), a foamy beverage with the mild bitterness of dark chocolate, or the Pistachio ($6.50)—refreshing with bits of raspberry fruit for extra tartness.
