The pandemic has left most of us stuck in Singapore. While travelling is virtually impossible at the present moment, Japanese food fans will be delighted to know that Tempura Tendon Tenya is opening their first Singaporean outlet at Orchard Central on 15 October 2020.
For those who aren’t familiar with Tempura Tendon Tenya, they are a Japanese-based chain, wildly popular in Tokyo for their affordable tempura rice bowls. Especially well-known among foreign tourists, their Tokyo restaurants have even been visited by celebrities such as Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga. Now, with the opening of Tempura Tendon Tenya’s first branch in Singapore, they are bringing Japan straight to us.
If you’re unsure of what to order, go for their Tenya Tendon ($8.50++) which stars succulent black tiger prawns, fish, squid and juicy French green beans. This generous spread of tempura sits atop a warm bed of fluffy Japanese rice and is doused with their signature tendon tare.
Alternatively, if you prefer a larger variety of seafood for your bowl of tempura, go for the Seafood Tendon ($12.90++). It includes eel, scallop, and pumpkin tempura, apart from the classic black tiger prawn tempura.
For those seeking other carbs such as udon and soba, fret not. Tempura Tendon Tenya also lets you pick Soba or Udon (from $11.90++) to go with a variety of tempura. Additionally, pick between hot and cold soba, the latter being the popular choice among the chain’s customers.
Apart from their mains, look out for their sides too. Tempura Tendon Tenya is also home to affordable add-ons including Truffle Fries ($3.90++), and desserts such as the Hokkaido Soft Serve ($2).
For other Japanese food eateries, also check out new ramen places Kure Menya and Ramen Keisuke Niku King. Otherwise, Mentai-Ya serves up affordable donburi topped with torched mentaiko sauce.
