Opened by Korean celebrity Chef Baek Jong Won, Paik’s Coffee is no stranger to those who visit Korea often. This popular Korean coffee chain has over 500 branches in Korea and is known for its affordable yet quality coffees.
You can be sure you’re having the same experience when you dine at its Korean outlet. Everything from the coffee beans to milk are similar to the ones used in Korea.
Paik’s Original Iced Coffee ($3.50) has a roast that’s slightly lighter than local coffee. It doesn’t pack much bitterness to it and finishes with a pleasant rounded sweetness. It makes for a great cup of coffee for those who might be averse to its overly sour and strong taste.

It’s all about the pearls at Playmade by 丸作. The pearls at this Taiwanese bubble tea store are made from scratch in-store, using only natural ingredients without any artificial flavouring. The difference is quite noticeable, with tasty pearls that give a much chewier texture.
Large Pink Cactus Smoothie with Pink Cactus Pearls ($7.10) is one of PlayMade’s signature drinks and it’s easy to see why. It uses the eye-catching Taiwanese Penghu pink cactus that’s blended into a purple paste. This refreshing drink has a slight floral taste and a light acidity, making it great to slurp up on a hot day.
Large Matcha Latte with Black Sesame Pearl ($6.90) is an item on the menu that’s sure to excite matcha lovers. You’re free to choose from any of Playmade’s three different pearls, but we went for the earthy black sesame pearls which match nicely with the aromatic matcha.

With over 60 stores around Malaysia, I Love Yoo! is a familiar name for those who constantly visit our neighbours up North. Serving up youtiao that are freshly made daily, this cosy joint offers a comforting experience that makes it worth a visit at any time of the day.
Set B ($2.80) gives you a piece of youtiao and their signature soya bean drink. You’ll notice that the youtiao here are fluffier and slightly larger than usual. This makes it great for dipping into the soya bean drink.
The store also uses imported non-GMO soybeans from Canada and frequently changes their palm oil, highlighting their stance on using quality produce.

Dry Wantan Mee ($4.50) is the star dish here, mixing up smooth and springy egg noodles with flavourful char siew and soft wantons. Each table also comes with a bottle of their signature chilli sauce. First-time visitors are encouraged to squirt only a few drops to get a gauge of its spiciness!

It’s not all about Vietnamese sandwiches at O Bahn Mi. This cosy eatery dishes up a tantalising selection of hearty Vietnamese food such as pho and other rice dishes as well. Focusing on Hanoi cuisine, which is known for its light and balanced flavours, the food here is slightly different for those accustomed to its heavier-flavoured Southern Vietnamese counterpart.
Beef Combination Pho Soup ($12.50) is a classic example of Hanoi-style pho, with the use of beef bones that are carefully boiled overnight. The result is an aromatic and robust broth that got us slurping spoonful after spoonful.
A trio of beef tenderloin, brisket, and meatballs can also be found inside. The tender brisket was particularly tasty, charming us with plenty of bold meaty flavours.

Combining flavours from the Isan region and Chiang Mai, Sakon Thai serves up authentic Thai cuisine at wallet-friendly prices. Frequent visitors to Bangkok might find the cuisine here different, with lesser spices used and a focus on fresh herbs instead.
Special Thai Deep Fried Fish Seabass ($19.80++) features a whole piece of sea bass that’s deep-fried to a crunching crisp. A tangy spicy sauce is then ladled onto it, along with basil leaves, sliced onions, and crunchy long beans.
The fish’s flesh is flaky and moist, mixing well with the mildly-spiced sauce that packed a whole lot of flavour. The long beans and onions also gave a nice variance of texture to this dish.

We got the Boutique Set Meal For Two ($46.80++) and were treated to a tantalising feast of Japanese Kurobuta pork, wagyu beef, pork tenderloin, and Australian beef. The sliced pieces of wagyu were our favourite, packing in generous streaks of fat that goes nicely with the flavourful soup bases.
