Since the famous Japanese chain Tori Sanwa arrived on our shores at Raffles City Shopping Centre sometime in August 2023, they have been expanding their business at the speed of light. In September, they announced the opening of their second outlet in Great World, and already a third branch has found a home at Bugis Junction.Â
If chicken is your favourite meat, you’re in for a treat at Tori Sanwa as the restaurant is an oyako don specialist, and takes pride in anything that has to do with chicken. Even better, you can indulge in Japanese food that won’t break the bank here.
Let’s talk about their Aburi Oyako Don ($14.90++) first. This heart-warming dish comprises three key ingredients: Japanese rice, eggs cooked in dashi and onions, and chunks of chicken thigh. You’ll fancy this if you appreciate sweet-salty combinations!
There’s also the Chicken Cutlet Don ($14.90++), arguably the better alternative to the Oyako Don. Each bowl comes with a warm bed of Japanese rice topped with deep-fried, sliced chicken cutlet, and a blanket of creamy eggs. A bite of the tender chicken and umami-laden eggs will give you enough reason to appreciate this dish.
If teriyaki is your thing, opt for their Chicken Teriyaki Hitsumabushi ($15.90++) instead. The teriyaki chicken slices were just the right amount of sweetness, and we enjoyed the slightly charred and caramelised flavour of the chicken skin too.
For more food places in the vicinity, read our Frites review for loaded beef fries with mentaiko and creamy onion. Else, check out 88 K Town for a variety of Korean food, including Nipong Naepong jjamppong, Chir Chir fried chicken and more.
