Whether you’re yearning to rediscover the beloved flavours of Nyonya food or seeking a unique ambience for special celebrations, head over to True Blue Cuisine at Armenian Street, well known for their selection of authentic Peranakan cuisine. Founded in 2003, the restaurant has also earned the Michelin Bib Gourmand award for several years in a row!

While some folks have pointed out that the prices here are steep for the portion sizes you get, regulars claim that the quality justifies the price. Plus, you get to savour your meal surrounded by antique Peranakan furniture and tableware, so there’s no denying that the vibes are great.

For many patrons, the standout dish here is undoubtedly the Ayam Buah Keluak ($30), where succulent chicken thighs are stewed in a rich and flavourful black nut gravy. The unique taste of this dish comes from the flesh of buah keluak nuts, which are laboriously prepared and cleaned to remove their natural toxins. To complete your dining experience, pair the aromatic flavours of the stew with a free-flow serving of fragrant, long-grained rice ($3.50).

The restaurant is also known for their tender Rendang Sapi ($25), which features tender beef chunks simmered in a thick, aromatic gravy and topped with fried shallots. For those with a penchant for robust, hearty flavours, this dish is a must-try.

Other recommended dishes here include the spicy Otak Otak ($12), the crispy Kueh Pie Tee ($20), the umami-rich Chap Chye ($20), and the classic Chendol ($8). If you’re a fan of Peranakan cuisine, don’t miss out on this gem!
