This eighth edition of Gourmet Japan that is presented by UOB Cards, celebrates Japanese Epicurean Artistry with a strong line-up of gastronomic offerings and exclusive gourmet experiences across Singapore’s best Japanese restaurants.

Tenkaichi Japanese BBQ Restaurant is renowned for their wagyu yakiniku buffet, but they also have plenty of a la carte dishes worth trying if you don’t have the time for an all-you-can-eat meal. Grill yourself some Australian Wagyu Shabu Shabu (U.P. $19.90++), or enjoy a 3 Kinds Sashimi Platter (U.P. $22.90++) if you prefer seafood. Their maki rolls are a speciality, so try their Lightly Seared Wagyu Beef Roll (U.P. $18.90++) for thin strips of wagyu circling Japanese rice, tamago, and avocado,

2. Magosaburou

Magosaburou is where you want to go if you’re craving wagyu yakiniku in town. The Ngee Ann City-based restaurant has a whole array of premium Japanese wagyu cuts available for your grilling pleasure. As a UOB Cardmember, you can get 10% off your a la carte orders, including wagyu beef. Enjoy the melt-in-your-mouth marbling from Karubi beef, priced according to cuts, or feast on lean, but equally flavourful Akami wagyu parts. Limited premium cuts such as Zabuton (U.P $52++), or chuck flap, and Kobe Rib Eye ($188++) are also available. 3. Kyoaji Dining

Helmed by a chef with over 30 years of experience is Japanese restaurant Kyoaji Dining. While omakase is their forte, the restaurant also has a decadent selection of ala carte fare, of which UOB Cardmembers can get 10% off, while UOB Reserve and Visa Infinite Metal Cardmembers get 15% off.

If you love ocean-fresh sashimi, order their Sashimi Moriawase Nami ($45++) platter, starring an assortment of raw fish, including salmon and tuna. Their Negitoro Don ($25++) is an indulgent dish to have for as a main, featuring minced fatty tuna belly that melts in your mouth. Sushi, maki rolls, tempura, and grilled dishes are available on the menu too.

Yamagawa Japanese Restaurant has been around since 1993, serving up a classic variety of Japanese dishes to their loyal customers. Teppanyaki restaurant Teppan Kappou Kenji places a lot of importance on the ingredients they use across the menu, sourcing directly from Japan. Their head chef also has experience working in several illustrious culinary establishments throughout Japan, lending his expertise to this outpost. For delicious Japanese sushi made with fresh fish and no frills, visit Mitsu Sushi Bar. Start off your meal with their sushi platters, such as their Aburi Sushi ($32++) medley, or their Shichimi Ebi Tempura ($26++) maki roll, stuffed with prawn tempura dashed with chilli powder. 7. Takeshi-San


New to the Japanese restaurant scene this year is Takeshi-San in Holland Village. Get their sushi stairways, also known as the Sushi Kaidan Sets, for an IG-worthy serve of handmade sushi, spanning six pieces of regular Nigiri ($18++) to Aburi Mentai ($26++). 9. Igokochi Dining Bar

Westies, here’s a deal for you: UOB Cardmembers get 10% off both a la carte menu items and the omakase lunch menu at Igokochi Dining Bar. Located in West Coast’s NEWest, this cosy neighbourhood restaurant has a $98++ Hanabi omakase menu for lunch, featuring six courses, of which includes nine assorted, handcrafted sushi. Sushi and sashimi can be ordered a la carte as well, priced from. These are available in one or two pieces, and span a variety of fresh fish, including tuna, salmon belly, and sweet eel.

10. An Exclusive Evening with Yamazaki and the Cusine of Odette and Shinji by Kanesaka

Treat yourself to a night of bacchanalian feasting with the one-time-only collaboration between Yamazaki Whisky, Odette, and Shinji by Kanesaka on 2 December 2021. Headlined by Chef Julien Royer of the three Michelin-starred, Asia’s Best Restaurant Odette, as well as the team of Japanese chefs from one-starred Shinji by Kanesaka, the evening will star an eight-course meal that celebrates the flavours of Japan and only the best seasonal ingredients, from oysters to Hokkaido king crab.

The awe-inspiring dishes by the chefs will be matched by a list of fine Yamazaki whiskies, from their Distiller’s Reserve, to their 12-, 18-, and 25-Years Old expressions. Rounding off the tasting array is their ultra-rare Yamazaki 55 Years Old, which currently holds the record as the most expensive bottle of Japanese whiskey ever sold. All guests will be entitled to a 15ml dram of this legendary whisky.

Prices start from $6,150.40++ for UOB Reserve and UOB Visa Infinite Metal Cardmembers, or $6,534.80++ for all other UOB Cardholders. This is a steep discount from the usual fee, which is $7,688++.
