Holland Village never gets boring: recently, we saw the opening of Le Bon Funk in the âhood, and now, yet another new addition to the scene here is Want Food Taiwanese Delights, a Taiwanese cafe that our writer raved about when she visited their first Chinatown outlet last year.
Understandably, Holland Village is quite the sprawling estate, so if youâre looking to zoom in directly on Want Food Taiwanese Delights, youâll find them at the far end of Lorong Liput, after stalwart tenants such as Tai Cheong Bakery, Project Acai, and Nakhon Kitchen. Alternatively, look for 2am: Dessert Bar, and youâll find Want Food directly opposite.
Look no further if youâre a lu rou fan like we are; Want Food Taiwanese Delightâs Taiwanese Braised Minced Pork Rice ($7.90)Â ticked all our boxes for being ultra tasty, not too crazily fatty, and laced with just the right amount of grease. Paired with preserved vegetables and pickles, this is the one dish you canât leave without ordering.
For $10.90, you can get the Taiwanese Braised Minced Pork Bento, which is the same, but with added side dishes of braised beancurd, cabbage, and Taiwanese sausage. Alternatively, if you prefer chunkier pieces of meat, you could opt for Braised Pork Belly Rice ($10.90), AKA kong bak rice, which is also available as a bento for $13.90.
Another Taiwanese street food favourite that youâll find here is Signature Oyster Intestine Mee Sua ($6.90/$9.90), which stars a bonito-infused broth that you can jazz up with a splash of vinegar.
Snack-wise, go for Taiwanese Salty Crispy Chicken ($8.90), a slightly sweet night market bite. You can also get this with rice ($9.90) or as a bento ($12.90). Other options include Gua Bao! Pork Belly Bun ($5) and Taiwanese Rice Ball ($6), which some reviews have praised for being super similar to what they used to eat in Taiwan for breakfast.
Another Taiwanese spot to satisfy your lu rou fan cravings in Holland Village is Isshin Machi, which is located closer to the opposite end of Lorong Liput. Otherwise, check out Lolaâs Cafe, the popular spotâs second outlet after the famous Kovan branch!
