Sometimes, all we need is a quick fix in between classes or during lunch break. Now, you can upgrade your convenience store game with 7-Eleven’s newly launched Hot Food Bar. Think zhnged-up instant noodles cooked to order, starting from as low as $4.50. It’s also fully customisable, with other treats available for a mid-day pick-me-up.

Currently, you can find it at five locations: Lubritrade Building, Wilkie Edge, Esplanade MRT Station, UE Square, and Changi Airport Terminal 4 Arrival Hall. We visited the Changi Airport outlet.

This new outlet offers dine-in seating, great for travellers and staff looking for a quick bite. Ordering the DIY bowl is simple: fill out the order chit, pay, and pick it up when ready.

You get to choose your base, followed by your preferred choice of sauce and add-ons, including Fishballs and Hash Browns. Some toppings cost extra, such as Mini Cheese Sticks at $0.50 and Herb Chicken Breast at $1. Lastly, pick a garnish, and you’re good to go!

For our own order, we got two bowls, one of which was the Korean Rose Penne with Spicy Chicken Karaage ($5.00) topped with seaweed flakes. The chicken was generous in size and had a spicy kick, pairing well with the creamy sauce.

Given the size of the box, it was a little hard to mix everything, so the sauce couldn’t coat every penne very well. We also found the pasta slightly underdone, though for its price we’d say it’s a steal.

If you’re indecisive, pre-made options are available, too. Intrigued by the butter chicken sauce, we opted for the Butter Chicken Noodles with Roasted Chicken ($5.00) and a garnish of fried shallots.

Despite our initial scepticism, this flavour took us by surprise. Interestingly, the sauce tasted more like curry than butter chicken, but was still quite tasty. The chicken itself was also tender and moist, making for a solid and affordable meal.
