Nimmies Pastry Cafe: Two-Storey Cafe With Bali Vibes Near JB Customs

18th March 2025

Nimmies Pastry Cafe is a Bali-style cafe near JB customs

Plenty of Singaporeans choose to make their trips to JB early in the morning to avoid the causeway jam. If that’s your strategy for your next quick getaway, make Nimmies Pastry Cafe your first pitstop. This cafe opens from 8am, and is very conveniently located near KSL Mall. It’s just a seven-minute car ride from the JB customs to Nimmies Pastry Cafe, where great, halal breakfast awaits.

The current exchange rate is RM1 = ~S$0.30 as of 17 March 2025.

Before we get into the food, let’s discuss the vibes, because they’re a huge selling point for Nimmies Pastry Cafe. The cafe is housed in a two-storey mansion, and has an indoor, as well as outdoor dining area. The overall atmosphere is reminiscent of a cafe you’ll find in Bali’s Canggu—think industrial, exposed walls juxtaposed by mid-century modern furnishings, and verdant plant installations.

When it comes to the food, diners can expect a huge selection of dishes and pastries to choose from, at very affordable prices.

taro croissant

They’ve gotten a fair amount of buzz for their Hoe Lemak Croissant (RM19++), where you get a buttery croissant base topped with nasi lemak ingredients, such as ikan billis, sambal, and a sunny side up egg. We decided to try their sweet bakes instead, zoning in on the Taro Cromboloni (RM20++). This is one to try if you like orh nee, as you get a flaky croissant pastry filled with taro paste. We found the pastry to be slightly stale when we visited, but that could’ve been because we were there on a bad day.

mahgreb shakshouka

For savouries, the Arab Maghreb Shakshouka (RM29++) is one we’d recommend for sharing. Lightly spicy with a pronounced tomato flavour, this is definitely a flavourful start to the day.

chicken tagliatelle pasta

Another highlight is the Chicken Cutlet Green Pesto Tagliatelle (RM38++). It’s not a breakfast dish, but if you’re here for lunch, we’d definitely recommend trying this. The pesto sauce is on the lighter end, letting the chicken cutlet take centre stage. Fried-to-order, the cutlet was very crispy, with a great batter-to-meat ratio.

genmaicha - nimmies cafe

On the drinks front, we suggest trying Nimmies Pastry Cafe unique lattes. The Mokuren Genmaicha (RM15++) is a nice alternative to your usual matcha latte. You get notes of roasted brown rice with the tea, and it’s overall not super sweet.

gula melaka latte nimmies pastry cafe

Coffee lovers, try the Gula Melaka Latte (RM20++). Served in a beautiful glass goblet, you get coffee and a heaping serving of gula melaka with your order. You’ve got to have a sweet tooth to enjoy this, as they’re generous with the syrup.
