If you were strolling in the CBD last weekend, you might have stumbled across Art Ice, a newly opened cafe along Duxton Hill. Look closer and you’ll realise this isn’t just any other coffee spot: they’re a kakigori cafe that’s hidden in an art gallery!

Art Ice is still in its soft launch phase, so there isn’t much information online, but we do know that its facade is stunning. Snap your #OOTD shot here; the teal door frame, mosaic tiles, and gold accents form the perfect backdrop for the ‘gram.

Located in a conservation shophouse, the space doubles up as an art gallery, so the interiors are equally gorgeous. While the cafe sees a muted colour palette, it’s decked in paintings and artwork, along with a feature wall at the counter that seems to be hand-carved.

Kakigori seems to be the new trend, with eateries such as Baristart putting their spin on it. There’s also Sakanoue Cafe, which made its appearance as a pop-up cafe in Orchard earlier this year.

Art Ice’s menu is lean with eight types of kakigori to choose from. There’s the vibrant Dragonfruit & Passionfruit ($22), layered with dragonfruit syrup and fresh kiwi slices, great for a hot afternoon.

Another unique kakigori flavour is the Pistachio ($22), starring a generous mound of nutty pistachio cream, condensed milk, and crunchy walnuts.

Then there’s also the Roasted Sweet Potato ($16) kakigori, a popular flavour that combines Japanese sweet potato cream, milk, and whipped cream. The shaved ice is said to be smooth, fine, and melt-in-the-mouth, pairing well with the toppings.

Art Ice is a five-minute walk from Maxwell MRT Station, or an eight-minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station.

We’ll update this article once we get more details on the other menu items!
