Aziz Jaffar Muslim Food: Nasi Padang Stall Open Since 1968, With Famous Mee Siam

Aziz Jaffar Muslim Food has famous mee siam

For my fellow Muslim readers who have been to Chinatown, it may be difficult to come by halal-friendly food options. Amidst the slew of Chinese eateries, you’ll find Aziz Jaffar Muslim Food in Chinatown Complex, a Muslim-owned hawker stall serving delicious and affordable traditional Malay dishes, with prices starting from just $3.50!

Operating since 1968, they’re best known for their nasi padang dishes and Mee Siam ($3.50), which features springy vermicelli doused in a sweet-spicy gravy, then topped with cut-up bits of tau pok, a hard-boiled egg, fresh lime, and chopped chives.

Diners also come for the Lontong ($3.50) at Aziz Jaffar Muslim Food. If you aren’t familiar with the dish, this breakfast staple stars soft rice cakes and vegetables in a mildly spicy, coconut-based curry.

Another popular pick here is the Mee Rebus ($3.50). The dish comprises yellow egg noodles in a thick, sweet potato-based gravy. Like the mee siam, it comes with cut-up pieces of tau pok, but also has beansprouts, fried shallots, sliced green chilli, and a hard-boiled egg.

It’s also drizzled with sweet dark sauce to finish, so each mouthful is sweet, tangy, and lightly spicy at the same time.

Those who love nasi lemak will be glad to know that this hawker stall also serves the fragrant rice dish for just $3.50. Alternatively, you can go for their Nasi Sambal Goreng ($6), an all-in-one-dish that comprises bergedil, paru AKA deep-fried beef lung, sambal goreng, and serundeng, which is sauteed spicy grated coconut. It comes with sambal, rice, and a meat item too.

Aziz Jaffar Muslim Food is opening its second outlet at Alexandra Village Hawker Centre in January 2023. Do note that this outlet will not offer their nasi padang dishes; instead, only the breakfast menu will be available.
