Calligraph Coffee: New Cafe With Coconut Matcha, Orh Nee Tarts And More In Bugis

Calligraph Coffee is a new matcha and coffee cafe in Bugis

Bugis is a treasure trove of trendy cafes such as Rumi The Poet’s Cup and Cafe Margaret. Another newly minted addition to this list is Calligraph Coffee. Unlike most of the cafes in Bugis that are found along the Haji Lane stretch, this cafe is located in a much more quiet spot at DUO Galleria.

Other than the regular espresso offerings, Calligraph Coffee offers a variety of seasonal filter coffees such as the Yunnan Badoo ($7.90), which tastes of nougat and berries, and the Java Wanasya ($7.90) boasting a balance of chocolatey and nutty flavours.

Coffee aside, what customers seem to love the most is their matcha. If you are a matcha lunatic like I am, you’ll be pleased to know that they source their premium and ceremonial matcha straight from Japan, which explains why all their matcha drinks sport a vivid green colour.

You can choose from three types of blends here for your lattes: Miyabi ($8.20), Zen (9.20), and Wa ($6.20), or you can get the Matcha Usucha ($7.20/$8.20/$5.20) variation of these drinks without milk.

Of the two ceremonial blends, Zen is more vegetal while Miyabi is nutty, and their best-selling premium blend, Wa, has the most well-rounded flavour. For hojicha lovers, they also have a roasted Sen Hojicha Latte ($6.20), which boasts a combination of smoky and nutty flavours.

If you want something different from the usual cafe spread, they have the unique Iced Coconut Matcha Usucha ($8.20): a refreshing blend of their Wa matcha and coconut water. They also have a coffee version, the Iced Coconut Americano ($6.90), if matcha doesn’t strike your fancy.

Moving on to the eats, choose from Butter Croissant ($4.50), Pain Au Chocolat ($5.50), and Blueberry Cheesecake Muffin ($4.50), as they are the perfect pair with your drinks. We also recommend going for the popular Yam Paste Tart ($7.90) and Matcha Tart (price TBD), which are currently unavailable but will be back very soon!

The minimalist space is well-lit and simple, adorning a completely white look. Its hidden location makes it a great spot to head to when you want to avoid the crowd. Note that the seats are quite limited, so we encourage you to visit early on weekends or opt for takeaway.
