Cha Mulan: TCM-Inspired Bubble Tea With Peach Gum And Snow Fungus Toppings

Cha Mulan is a new stall with unique Chinese tea drinks

There have been a few unique beverages concocted to help soothe ailments, cue Koi’s and Woobbee’s versions of pi pa gao bubble tea. But Cha Mulan might just be the first to conceive beverages inspired by Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Our first sip was the Radiant Mulan ($4.90) with Artisan White Peach Oolong tea. We liked how this beverage gave us the best of all worlds: chewiness from the peach gum, tartness from the goji berries, and a smooth gelatinous texture from the snow fungus.

If that’s too many textures in one cup for you, there’s also the Cleanse Mulan ($4.90). This features the same silky snow fungus, and the added goodness of premium poached pear. The pear lent the tea a chew and a fruity sweetness, a good contrast to the other more herbal-tasting elements.

The Collagen Mulan ($4.90) is also a good choice if you’re not a fan of the jelly-like snow fungus. This features ruby goji berries and lots of peach gum, which contains collagen for nourishing the skin. Those who enjoy chewing their drinks would appreciate the various chewy elements here.

Fruit teas aside, there’s also the Silky White Peach Oolong Tea ($5.90), a milk tea-based drink. This drink gave me total CHAGEE vibes: smooth, creamy, and milky, with a delightful floral-fruity note. For optimal enjoyment, we recommend going for the 50% sweetness level for all of your drinks.

Cha Mulan has outlets across Chinatown, Bukit Merah, Marine Parade, Bedok, and is set to open in Ang Mo Kio, Choa Chu Kang, and Changi soon. This time, we paid a visit to their stall at ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre.

In other news, check out Nakoko at Lau Pau Sat, a new stall serving acai soft serve with 18 different toppings. Else, check out our JB bubble tea shops guide for options you can’t find in Singapore!
