Coming from a home where making pizza from scratch was preferred over getting it delivered, my childhood was filled with memories of rolling out dough and tossing whatever I liked onto it. So when I heard about Dough It Yourself, a new restaurant in Joo Chiat that lets you DIY your own pizza and pasta, I had to give it a whirl.Â
The pizza and pasta buffet is priced at $32++ per person for weekday lunch, $34++ for weekend lunch and weekday dinner, and $39++ for weekend dinner. There is a 90-minute dine-in time limit.Â
Compared to DIY experiences offered elsewhere, this is a little more fun, since you get to assemble your toppings directly onto your pizza exactly how you want it. This would be a great place to bring your family and friends if you want a hands-on dining experience.Â
To start, you get to choose from four sauces: pesto, red pesto, cream, and tomato. Then you move on to the veggie section, where you get to adorn your pizza with bell peppers, sun-dried tomatoes, mushrooms, onions, chilli peppers, olives and more! Next up, dress your pizza with unlimited meats, including minced beef, pepperoni, turkey ham, sausages, and chicken breast.Â
Of course, no pizza is complete without cheese, so don’t forget to sprinkle a generous amount of mozzarella, cheddar, and parmesan as the finishing touches. Once you are satisfied with your toppings, simply hand it to the staff, who will bake your pizza to golden perfection. The Italian pizza oven works its magic, so you can expect a fresh pizza within three minutes!Â
The pizza crust had the right amount of chew to it, but the base did not really hold up well against the sauces and ended up soggy. A tip to counter this is to only use one ladleful of sauce so you do not end up overdoing it! We got two pizzas, one with pesto and another with tomato. Of the two, we preferred the tomato as it had a nice balance of sweet and salty flavours.Â
If you prefer pasta over pizza, the good news is that it’s included in the buffet too! Grab a bowl and pile on pre-cooked pasta, and then repeat the same process of adding your sauce, veggies, meat, and cheese. This is also baked in the oven, so you get a piping hot bowl of pasta with lots of gooey melted cheese.Â
Dough It Yourself is an 11-minute walk away from Marine Parade MRT Station.Â
