This Old-School Breakfast Stall Has $1.30 Chee Cheong Fun And Fried Bee Hoon In Bugis

Breakfast hours at Albert Centre Market & Food Centre often has diners drawn to Fatt Kee Shou Shi, a stall known for its old-school Cantonese dishes. How is it old-school, you may ask? Well, the dishes it is famous for, such as chee cheong fun and fried bee hoon, are all strikingly simple and taste like what you might have in years bygone.

Take the popular Chee Cheong Fun (from $1.30), for instance. Instead of being filled with ingredients such as char siew or prawns, the thick rice rolls here are meant to be eaten mostly on their own, with just a red sweet-savoury gravy and some chilli sauce to lift the flavours. If you are looking for something light in the morning, a dish like this would be perfect for you.

The Fried Bee Hoon (from $1.30) here is also as no-frills as it gets. Just a pile of messy, savoury noodles sprinkled with sesame seeds and scallions—similar to something you’d get at an old canteen.
