Frozen Heart has famous Taiwan fried ice cream in Jewel
Fans of popular Taiwan chain Frozen Heartย won’t have to hop on a plane for their sweet tooth fix, as the brand has just opened its first international outpost in Jewel Changi Airport! Frozen Heart (ๅๅฟ็ธๅฐๆทๆท), which has over 40 outlets across Taiwan, is most known for their innovative Fried Ice Cream: deep-fried milk toast with a creamy gelato centre.
The brand is said to be the first fried ice cream brand in the world. At their Jewel outlet, you can look forward to six flavours: Classic Vanilla ($3.80), Swiss Chocolate ($3.80), Top Fresh Strawberry ($4.50), Golden Pillow Durian ($4.50), Apple Flavoured Blueberry ($4.50), and Aurora Starry Sky ($4.50). The last four are premium flavours.
Each pocket-sized treat comprises high-quality milk toast wrapped around Frozen Heart’s signature gelato, deep-fried to order so the outside is crispy and the inside remains cool.
They’re imported directly from Taiwan in their ready-to-fry form. Each piece is fried one by one for around 15 seconds, so you don’t have to wait for long after ordering.ย The result is a golden crust that’s light and crispy, with a milky fragrance, paired with smooth gelato that’s still cold on the inside.
The frozen treat is best enjoyed on the spotโbased on personal experience, the ice cream melts in around 10 minutes, so it’s definitely not da bao-friendly.
I particularly enjoyed the Apple Flavoured Blueberry as the gelato was surprisingly refreshingly, spiked with zesty lemon notes. You get a burst of natural sweetness from the apples and blueberriesโan interesting pairing that actually works.
Those who love the mint and chocolate combo can go for Aurora Starry Sky. The mint-flavoured gelato, which comes studded with sweet chocolate bits, leans milky with a slight cooling aftertaste.
If you’re not in the mood for deep-fried, consider their Gelato Cups instead. Choose from seven flavours, including Pistachio ($6.50), Rose Lychee ($5.80), and Papaya Milk ($5.80), which takes a nod to the popular Taiwanese drink.
