We’re seeing more and more hawker integrating robotics into their operations. A few months ago, Wok A.I made headlines for using a machine to create hokkien mee. Now, we’ve caught wind of a Turkish hawker who uses a kebab-making robot that is said to cost $16K. That stall goes by the name of Gaziantep Delight, and you can find it at Holland Drive Food Centre.
Gaziantep Delight’s expensive robot doesn’t just grill—it also mechanically shaves off meat, ensuring each piece is at the optimal thickness. While that’s plenty impressive on its own, there are other standout reasons to check out the stall, including their range of exquisite desserts including kunafa and baklava. With all that promise in mind, we dropped by the stall to see how the food actually holds up.
With all the hype surrounding the robot, we had to try the Mixed Doner Kebab ($8.50). The wrap came packed with a multitude of ingredients, including lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumbers, and of course, the meat: chicken and lamb. The lamb meat here was very finely sliced, while the chicken meat tended to be chunkier.
One bite into the kebab revealed an explosion of flavours and textures—crunchy vegetables contrasted the tender meat, while the savoury, gamey flavours were balanced by the refreshing flavour of lettuce, tomatoes and so on. Finally, the garlic yoghurt sauce and spices tied everything together.
We will say, however, that aside from being perfectly sliced, the meat could use some work. They weren’t as succulent as we would’ve liked, and we thought the seasoning could’ve done more to make the flavours pop.
Having finished the hearty kebab, it was time to fill our second stomachs with some Turkish desserts. First up was possibly the most decadent one of them all: the Kunefe ($11.50). This gorgeous pastry arrived surrounded by cream, giving the dish the appearance of an island rising out from a sea of white.
Kunafa is a pretty trendy dish these days, but we’d say this was one of the better ones we’ve had recently. The pastry itself was wonderfully crispy, with a rich, savoury cheese filling bolstered by the fragrant and nutty pistachio bits strewn over everything. The sugar syrup, alongside the copious amounts of cream, gave this dish the sweetness it deserved.
The kunafa might’ve been too jelak for one person, so if you’re dining solo, consider getting the Pistachio Baklava ($3 per piece) instead. Don’t underestimate its size—this treat packed some serious flavour.
What made it so rich was the layer of condensed crushed pistachios and sugary syrup tucked beneath the pastry. Additionally, the contrast between the crunchy nuts and soft, flaky pastry gave it an exciting mouthfeel. The only downside was that it might’ve been just a little too sweet overall.
Holland Drive Food Centre is home to some excellent stalls—Butter Town and New Lucky Claypot Rice can be found there, to name a few. Aside from the offerings, the hawker centre is relatively spacious and well-lit, making it a pleasant enough place to dine at.
You’ll find it to be a 10-minute walk away from Buona Vista MRT Station.
Gaziantep Delight some solid kebab and desserts, all at hawker centre prices. We reckon it’s worth a shot if you’re a fan of Turkish cuisine and sweet treats alike.
