Explore Delicious Penang At The Georgetown Festival

Culinary Roots and Communities

The only hawker fare Singaporeans are crazier about other than our own, would be Penang Street Food. Which is why this year’s George Town Festival would appeal to avid Singaporean fans of hawker food. Burmah 108 and Food Cult will be jointly organising ‘Culinary Roots and Communities’ to showcase the rich food culture of Penang.

Culinary Roots and Communities celebrates the cuisines of three communities: the Indians, the Hainanese, and the Penang Peranakans. These three communities have organised various events such as spice trails, community feasts, as well as a Peranakan cook-off. The full calendar of events can be found here.

North-South Peranakan Cook-Off

This cook-off is one of the highlights of Culinary Roots and Communities. It will be held between two young generation Peranakan cooks: Singaporean cookbook author Christopher Tan, and Penang-born Nyonya Su Pei. Their menu is meant to compare and contrast two different Peranakan styles of cooking, and diners will be in for an exciting gastronomical adventure.
