Jiah Xiang Dim Sum opens for 24 hours daily in JB
If you’re heading to Johor Bahru (JB) for a quick weekend getaway, consider crossing the causeway early for brekkie to beat the traffic. One recent discovery that’s made it to our list of favourite JB breakfast spots is Jiah Xiang Dim Sum, a popular eatery located in Mount Austin and Plaza Sentosa. We visited the latter, a mere five-minute drive from KSL City Mall!

This dim sum spot opens 24 hours daily, so you can come by anytime, whether it’s for an early morning bite or late-night supper feast. Prices are pretty affordable too, with most items under RM9.
Their Shrimp Dumplings (RM7+) came in a basket of three.
The shrimps were plump and bouncy, while the dumpling skin wasn’t too thick. Although this wasn’t the best har gao we’ve tried, we felt it was worth its price.
Another must-get is the Golden Bao (RM7.80+) AKA liu sha bao.
These salted egg custard buns leaned sweet and buttery, and came with a molten middle that oozed out upon tearing.
We also got the Fried Carrot Cake (RM8.50+) to share among the table.
Sadly, this plate of fried carrot cake was lacking in wok hei. The saving grace was how generous they were with the egg mixture; we liked how there were fried omelette bits in each spoonful.
Jiah Xiang also offers the quintessential Char Siu Cheong Fan (RM7+), which comes with shredded char siew bits tucked between silky layers of rice sheets.
Don’t leave without trying the Kataifi Mango Shrimp (RM7.80+), where thin, noodle-like strips of filo pastry encase a mango and shrimp centre.
This was a unanimous favourite for good reason. The crispy pastry layer complemented the sweet mango puree and savoury shrimp bits, culminating in an explosion of flavours and textures in each bite.
When we arrived at the Plaza Sentosa eatery around 9am on a weekday, there were already a few groups of diners enjoying their breakfast. We recommend heading down earlier on a weekend to avoid the morning crowd, or in the wee hours of the morning for your supper fix.
Do note that their Mount Austin outlet only operates during the day.
