1. Mister Donut

Best known for their chewy Pon De Ring doughnuts, Mister Donut is a household name in Japan with over 900 outlets on its native turf. The brand made its Singapore debut at Junction 8 two years ago, and the Bishan outlet has since become a top pick for peckish shoppers seeking an easy treat.

A must-try here is the iconic Pon De Ring ($2.30), made with tapioca flour for that unmistakably mochi-like texture. While the Pon De Ring is available in several flavours, Mister Donut also has a selection of other types of doughnuts on the menu worth trying. We’d recommend the Chocolate Fashion ($2.50), an old-fashioned doughnut—a type of cake doughnut—dipped in luscious dark chocolate, and the Custard Strawberry French ($2.50), a fluffy cruller filled with custard cream.

The latter is a signature for good reason. Each bowl comes generously topped with fresh mango chunks over soft, milky shaved ice. If you’re after something savoury, Nunsaram also serves up familiar Korean street food. Ritz Apple Strudel first opened in Bukit Timah over two decades ago, and has since grown into a familiar name with outlets across malls islandwide. The beloved bakery has now landed in Junction 8, serving up their beloved Austrian-style strudels and more.
A key draw here is that their strudels are freshly made daily, so the pastry stays crisp and flaky, even when layered with filling. The classic Apple Strudel (from $6.90) is a comforting treat any time of day, thanks to the marriage of tender spiced, stewed apple chunks with smooth custard and fresh cream. If you and your loved ones are big fans of durian, the Durian Strudel (from $8.90) here is worth a try, with its winning combo of buttery pastry and a durian cream made with premium-quality fruit. Sizes include mini, half, and full strudels.

Aside from its namesake baked treat, Ritz Apple Strudel has pies and cakes on the menu, ideal for birthdays or to share with a group. Their Chocolate Mille Crepe Cake (from $5.80 per slice) toes the line between rich chocolate, airy crepes, and cream, making for an indulgent dessert that’s not too heavy. Other crepe cake flavours include vanilla, durian, matcha, tiramisu, Oreo, and red velvet. Get them in slices, or as a cake in six-inch ($39.80) or eight-inch ($58) variations.

Another must-try is the Beef Rendang Bowl ($11.50), where beef is hand-marinated with a blend of 17 spices and slow-cooked in rempah made fresh from scratch, then served with a comforting begedil patty and curried vegetables.Â
