Known by the store name of “nichifu” in Taiwan, Kazo is a Taiwanese bakery that specialises in Japanese-inspired pastries like cream puffs. As they continue to extend their popularity throughout Singapore, they recently opened their fourth outlet in the well-known food hall of Takashimaya.
Orh nee lovers will adore their Taro Tarts ($8.50 for three), featuring a heaping portion of creamy yam paste nestled within a buttery cookie crust. For added texture, it’s topped with sweet ginko nuts, making this decadent delight resemble the orh nee dessert many of us are familiar with.Â
If taro isn’t your thing, they also have Cheese Tarts that come in three different flavours: Original ($3), Chocolate ($3.20), and Matcha ($3.20). Pop these bite-sized tarts into your mouth; they burst with flavour from the smooth, moreish cheese mousse that sits within the slightly-firm pastry base.Â
Also go for their best-selling Golden Lava Danish Polo ($3), which features a crumbly exterior dusted with fine icing sugar, and a layered croissant-like dough within. It’s filled to the brim with salted egg yolk custard, so get your camera ready for an IG-worthy shot as rich custard oozes with every bite!Â
A kid-friendly treat would be their Crispy Cream Puff ($1.80), available in three flavours: Chocolate, Matcha, and Hokkaido Cream. If you love tea, opt for the bittersweet matcha puff that packs a gao green tea flavour.Â
Don’t forget to try their unique, sculpted Kazo Man drinks, which include Matcha Latte ($3.20) and Organic Soya Bean ($3). The former resembles the taste of Starbucks’ Iced Green Tea Latte, while the soya milk is well-balanced and not too sweet.
