This New CBD Cafe Has Cheap Sando With Taro Pork Floss, $1.50 Kopi And More

Kinber Kopi is a hidden cafe in the CBD

It appears that the sando trend is here to stay, with popular cafes such as Equate and Stack coming up with their own unique iterations. If you’re on a budget, or you want a simple fix, pop by new kid on the CBD block Kinber Kopi. This casual, no-frills cafe is hidden in the basement of Hong Leong Building, which is a three-minute walk from Telok Ayer MRT Station, or a five-minute walk from Raffles Place MRT Station.

Here you’ll find a good range of sando AKA sandwiches, mostly priced under $5. The most expensive flavour is Taro with Omelette and Cheese, which costs $5.40. Otherwise, classic breakfast options include Luncheon Meat ($4.90), which comes with omelette, cheese, and sriracha mayo, and the Ham & Cheese with Egg Mayo ($3.90).

Those who love orh nee can try their popular Taro with Pork Floss ($4.90) flavour, starring buttered white toast with a sweet yam paste, sandwiched with savoury pork floss.

If you’re looking for something more substantial during lunchtime, Kinber Kopi also offers rice sets that’ll fill you up. The cheapest main is the Smoked Duck with Rice & Black Pepper Sauce ($6.20). There’s also the popular Grilled Chicken with Rice, which lets you choose from four sauces: Black Pepper Sauce ($6.90), Brown Sauce ($6.90), Sweet Chilli Sauce ($6.90), Salted Egg Yolk Sauce ($7.40).

Upgrade your sando or rice dish to a meal by topping up $1.10 for a drink. Expect local kopi and teh here, priced from $1.50 for a cup of Kopi O. Another interesting drink offered here is the Coconut Oil Coffee ($3.50)—a twist on bulletproof coffee, better known as kopi gu you.

There are a few tables at the casual eatery, which can get filled up fast during breakfast and lunch timings. To avoid the crowd, drop by earlier or opt to dabao instead!

For more must-try food in the hood, visit Surrey Hills Deli, also in Raffles Place, for Aussie-inspired sandwiches, coffee and more in a cosy setting. Alternatively, Munchi Pancakes has opened at Lau Pa Sat just next door, so you can head over to get your min jiang kueh fix.
