Kaya toast in Singapore today is often priced like a full meal, with a set at popular franchises easily exceeding $6. While our team was looking for cheaper alternatives to the national breakfast, we came across Kopi Siew Dai at HomeTeamNS Khatib, a newly opened quaint cafe with breakfast, lunch, and dinner options all priced under $10.

Starting with their all-day breakfast items, there’s the economic Bee Hoon priced at $3, comprising a sunny-side-up and crispy beancurd skin atop a generous serving of thin noodles. If this isn’t enough, opt for the Chicken Luncheon ($4.50) or Fish Ngoh Hiang ($5.20) instead. 

Another way to substantiate your meal is by choosing your add-ons separately: Fried Chicken Cutlet ($3) and Chicken Nuggets ($1.80) are just some examples of the 10 different options.

Available from 8am to 6pm daily, there’s a range of toast bread sets if these tickle your fancy. The most popular of the lot, of course, is Kaya Butter ($4.80), consisting of a cup of kopi, soft-boiled eggs, and crispy traditional brown bread packed with sweet kaya jam and a slab of butter.  

Other variations include the Butter Sugar ($4.80), Otah ($6.80), and Peanut Butter ($4.80).

We have to start the day with a good cup of kopi—whether it’s Kopi O, Kopi C, or just Kopi—with prices ranging from $1.80 to $3.10. There’s also Hor Ka Sai (from $2.10) here, which is essentially a mix of Milo and coffee. 

If coffee isn’t your thing, there are other options such as Teh (from $1.90) and Honey Lemon ($3.20).

For those visiting during lunch or dinner, go straight for the rice or noodle options available from 11am every day. You can’t go wrong with the hearty Fried Chicken Cutlet Nasi Lemak ($8.50), or the flavour-packed Chilli Crab Sauce Noodles ($8.50).

Kopi Siew Dai is adorned with traditional trinkets and knick-knacks to create a warm, quaint atmosphere. Also, the cafe is a quick six-minute walk from Khatib MRT Station, making it a convenient spot for those in the area.
