If you’re the type of person who has crazy exes and doesn’t want to be caught hanging out with your new bae, hidden cafes are always the best places to visit. Don’t worry, you can always count on your friendly Eatbook team to have your back. Here’s a new place that we’re not going to gatekeep anymore—Kreme Cafe, a cafe in Serangoon with old-school bakes and gelato!

Kreme Cafe takes over the former Chang Wang Cake Shop, which previously occupied the premises for over 30 years. This hipster-style cafe is spacious with plenty of seats, and is well-lit with natural light streaming through their glass frontage.

Customers speak of their Kaya Cake ($4.20) with much praise for its alternating layers of fluffy pandan chiffon cake and jiggly kaya custard. Another popular item here is Yam Cake ($4.20), which features layers of yam sponge cake and yam custard instead. If these don’t suit your taste buds, they have other cake flavours to choose from, ranging from Durian Cake ($5), Blueberry Cheesecake ($4.50), to Mango Mousse ($4.20).

If you’re looking for something less jelak but no less sedap, consider other old-school bites that smack of nostalgia, including Ring Donuts ($2.20), Egg Tart ($1.80), and Chocolate Balls ($1.50). Don’t forget to try some of their savoury treats too, such as Chicken Pie ($2.20) and Chicken Curry Puff ($2.20).

Don’t miss out on their gelato as well, which comes in a variety of flavours ranging from Yuzu Sorbet, Strawberry Cheesecake, Green Apple Yakult to Raspberry Lychee. Prices start from $4.50 for a Single Scoop, $8.50 for a Double Scoop, and $12.50 for a Triple Scoop. For premium flavours, you’ll have to top up an additional $1 per scoop.

You can choose to pair your gelato with waffles for an extra dose of indulgence. Choose between the regular Waffle for $5, or a Pandan Waffle for $5.50.

For more quiet cafes to visit, check out Rise, another under-HDB cafe with coffee, fresh waffles and gelato, and cakes. Alternatively, visit Madu The Bakery, a popular cafe with cereal prawn croissants and shiitake mushroom buns.
