Get Croissant Egg Tarts And Mentaiko Sausage Pastry At This New Clarke Quay Bakery

Pastry lovers are spoilt for choice with a myriad of bakeries available across the island—from Chef Gan’s Hong Kong pastries in the West to the atas One18 Bakery in the East. Another spot to include on your bakery hopping list is Kwaasong Bakeshop, a new bakery offering artisanal French pastries. It’s just a five-minute walk from Clarke Quay MRT Station or an eight-minute stroll from Raffles Place MRT Station.

Kwaasong Bakery is a wordplay on the frequently mispronounced French pastry ā€œcroissantā€. Their name can also be associated with the Hokkien word, ēœ‹ēˆ½, which is used to describe a sense of satisfaction one gets from watching something visually appealing.

A must-try is the Croissant ($4.50), which boasts a golden-brown, flaky exterior that’s said to give way to a soft and airy dough within. Some reviewers also described it as having a good balance of buttery richness without being overly greasy.

Another item that comes highly recommended is their uniquely shaped oval Egg Tart ($5.50). Kwaasong Bakeshop’s rendition is similar to Portuguese egg tarts, featuring a crisp, flaky pastry crust complemented by a caramelised top. This is quite different from the crumbly, cookie-like crust seen in Hong Kong-style egg tarts. In fact, some reviewers have stated that it’s almost croissant-like!

For savoury pastries, don’t miss out on the Bacon Emmental Fold ($6.50), a puff pastry filled with Emmental cheese and bacon bits.Ā

Alternatively, explore their other bakes such as Mentaiko Sausage Baton ($7.50), Almond Baton ($5.50), Truffle Taleggio Fold ($6.50) and more! They also serve coffee priced from $5.50, which would pair well with their baked goods.Ā
