La Saigon: Highly-Rated Vietnamese Cafe In East Coast With Legit Egg Coffee And Banh Mi

La Saigon is a popular Vietnamese cafe in East Coast

There are many great cafes in the East: Breakfast Grill, Cafe Natsu, and the list goes on. The next time you find yourself in East Coast and want something a little different, consider La Saigon. This Vietnamese cafe and bar is highly rated on Google with a 4.8-star rating from close to 500 reviews!

The cafe serves Vietnamese coffee, sourdough banh mi, and light bites by day, and turns into a bar by night. The alfresco dining area is the perfect spot to unwind over a couple of sundowners when it gets cooler in the evening.

On a hot afternoon, head indoors to dine in their cosy air-conditioned space.

If you’re in the mood for a hearty brekkie, get their Fluffy Egg Banh Mi ($12++): sourdough baguette with scrambled egg, kombucha pickles, greens, and mayo. This is also available in a petite size at $7++ for small eaters!

Else, try their Soft Shell Crab Banh Mi ($10++) if you’re feeling adventurous. This sandwich stars the same sourdough baguette, generously stuffed with deep-fried soft-shell crab and pickles to cut through the grease.

On the coffee front, La Saigon uses Fine Robusta beans sourced directly from farms in Vietnam, so you shouldn’t leave without trying a cup of Hot Drip White ($6++).

Let the coffee drip for a couple of minutes before removing the phin AKA coffee pot. This brew was smooth and strong, balanced by the sweet and creamy condensed milk.

Alternatively, have your caffeine fix in the form of an Egg Coffee ($10++), topped with rose petals for a lovely floral fragrance. This dessert-like concoction was creamy and thick, with just the right amount of sweetness.

If you need something to cool you down on a hot day, look no further than their Sea Salt Honeycomb Latte ($10++). This turned out to be a unanimous favourite at the table; the iced coffee came with a generous scoop of creamy foam and sea salt-spiked honeycomb syrup for an addictive, sweet-salty kick.

Another must-try Vietnamese spot is Nhung Kitchen, a late-night diner in Balestier serving legit banh mi and noodles. Else, check out our guide to the best banh mi in Singapore for more options!
