Westies, you’re in luck: there’s a huge pasar malam next to Lakeside MRT Station that runs from now till 1 September 2024! The food street features a wide variety of street snacks, from bazaar staples such as sweet potato balls, to trendy kunafe.
You’ll find Ahae Taiyaki selling a range of Taiyaki, priced at $3 per piece or $7 for three. Expect flavours such as Purple Sweet Potato, Hokkaido Milk, and Chocolate.
Those who love savoury snacks can head to Mr Vadai, which is also making an appearance at this mega-fair. Try their Signature Vadai, which costs $5 for five pieces. Alternatively, you can go for their individual vadai, available in flavours such as Prawn ($1.30) and Sardine ($1.30)
Alternatively, grab a cheesy sandwich at halal-friendly kiosk Sultana Zwin. Their Rolly, available in Chicken ($10 for three) and Beef ($13 for three), are essentially subs loaded with freshly grilled meats and melty cheese.
Don’t miss out on Rosti Haus‘ selection, too. A portion of their classic Rosti served with sour cream will set you back $6, but you can zhng it up with add-ons such as Chilli Crab ($7) and Beef Tenderloin ($8) too!
At this point, you can quench your thirst and wash everything down with a refreshing beverage in the form of Bittermelon Lemon Tea ($4) and Coriander Lemon Tea.
Then, end your feast on a sweet note. We spotted Kunafa Tak Viral, a kiosk specialising in the TikTok-viral kunafe (or kunefe), which is a Middle Eastern dessert featuring shredded pastry and cheese soaked in sugar syrup. Here, you get to pick from trendy flavours such as OG Milk Chocolate ($10), Pistachio ($13), and Red Velvet ($12).
There are many more stalls worth checking out at this Lakeside pasar malam, including kiosks selling Thai skewers, Taiwanese street snacks, and kebabs.
In related food news, famous KL coffee brand Choon Kee is here in Singapore with a limited-time pop-up in Somerset! Alternatively, if you’re looking for a dessert spot in the West, check out Three Madames for their unique fruit “noodles” and salted egg shaved ice.
