It looks like the matcha trend isn’t slowing down anytime soon. New kid on the Guoco Tower block, Matsu Matcha, has been trending on social media for its matcha stone mill imported all the way from Kyoto, Japan.

Just last year, Creamie Sippies, another popular homegrown matcha brand, opened in Chinatown with what’s said to be Singapore’s first matcha mill.

Matsu Matcha’s new kiosk is a two-minute walk from Tanjong Pagar MRT Station. At the heart of the matcha bar is a Kyoto-made stone mill, reportedly costing up to $25,000. The tedious process of milling the tea leaves fresh on-site produces a smooth, roasted fragrance known as “hika”, a result of the heat generated during grinding.

That’s not all: Matsu Matcha also uses an antique cast-iron pot and filtered water to brew its tea, said to produce better-tasting matcha.

If you’re a matcha latte girlie, get their Stone Milled Seiha Matcha Latte w Tencha True Ceremonial ($9.90), a signature item served mildly sweetened by default. Those on a tighter budget can opt for the Uji Matcha Latte ($7.90) instead, available warm or iced.

Otherwise, splurge on the Double Matcha: Iced Uji Matcha Latte ($12.50), a signature beverage topped with a scoop of Tencha Matcha gelato for added indulgence.

Matcha purists can also check out the brand’s usucha selection, including the Competition Grade Honsu Asahi ($19), sourced from Uji and available in limited quantities daily.

Besides matcha, the kiosk offers a Premium Dark Roast Houjicha Latte ($6.90) and a Genmaicha Latte ($6.50)—green tea with roasted brown rice.
