McDonald’s Has New Laksa Delight Burger And Pulut Hitam Pie For National Day

National Day is just around the corner, and you know what that means—a new limited-time McDonald’s burger inspired by one of our local dishes. While last year saw the emergence of the Hainanese Chicken Burger, obviously modelled after our Hainanese chicken rice, the fast food chain appears to have set their sights on a noodle dish this year: laksa.

The Laksa Delight Burger ($7.40 for a la carte, $9.10 for an Extra Value Meal) will be available from tomorrow, 28 July 2022, for takeaway or dine-in at all outlets, Drive-Thrus. You can also get it online via McDelivery, GrabFood and foodpanda for a limited period only, while stocks last.

The Laksa Delight Burger comes in two flavours: prawn and chicken. Similar to the Roasted Sesame Ebi Burger, the laksa burger had a crispy patty, though the prawn version had a lighter crunch than the chicken.

The patties were topped with a mixed vegetable slaw and a sunny side-up egg. The most novel element, however, is the creamy laksa sauce. The sauce lived up to flavours of the iconic noodle dish with its rich coconut taste, although its spiciness was on the milder side.

Chicken laksa lovers can opt for the Chicken Laksa Delight Burger, which had a thicker and crunchier patty. While both prawn and chicken burgers were delicious, the prawn version definitely stole the show and tasted the closest to a real bowl of local laksa.

A new Teh C Frappé (from $4.50) will also be released alongside the Laksa Delight Burger. Inspired by the similarly-named local drink, the Teh C Frappé is topped with chocolate powder and some freshly whipped cream. Surprisingly, the drink was not as sweet as we expected it to be, and had a slightly bitter aftertaste reminiscent of actual Teh C.

There’s also the Pulut Hitam Pie ($1.70), where McDonald’s classic crispy pie pastry filled with a purple glutinous rice and coconut cream filling. Small chewy bits of pulut hitam were present in the pastry, offering a bit of bite. The sweet coconut cream was smooth, akin to a thick custard.
