McDonald’s has new Satay Burgers and Thai Tea Frappe
Word is in: McDonald’s is bringing back their famous Satay Chicken and Beef Burgers and CrissCut Fries, along with an all-new launch: Thai Milk Tea Frappe!
If the Satay Burger sounds familiar, that’s because it was first launched as Shiok Shiok Satay Burger 10 years ago. Check out the photo posted on McDonald’s Facebook page back when the burgers were launched in 2014!
This time, the recipe is said to be different though. The meat used is said to be thicker and better, while the satay sauce boasts a hint of spice.
The updated Satay Beef Burger (from $8.90) stars a thicker cut of Quarter Pounder beef patty, with a refreshed peanut sauce that’s uber-flavourful.
If you’re a spice wimp, worry not as we felt that the satay sauce was barely spicy. The spice level is surely bearable for everyone—if it helps, we even saw a kid devouring the entire burger. Besides the robust satay sauce, the burger also comes with sliced cucumbers and onions for more textural variety.Â
For those getting the Satay Chicken Burger (from $8.90) instead, you’ll be happy to know that chicken thigh is used for its tender texture and juicy meat.
While my colleague preferred the beef patty, I enjoyed this a lot more as the chicken was incredibly tender and delicious. Though many diners present at the tasting session had polarising opinions, we heard more in favour of the Satay Beef Burger. If you’re curious about which burger fares better, we recommend trying both for yourself.Â
That’s not all: McDonald’s is also bringing back their CrissCut Fries ($4.70). Since this isn’t a permanent item on the menu, we encourage you to enjoy it while it’s still available.Â
Wash everything down with a Thai Milk Tea Frappe AKA Thai milk tea in ice-blended form. This creamy and refreshing beverage makes for the perfect accompaniment to the new Satay Burgers. It’s fairly sweet with a strong floral fragrance, tasting like an in-between of Thai milk tea and teh bing. FYI, each cup is priced from $4.70.
In addition to these launches, McDonald’s is also rolling out the Ha Cheong Gai Chicken Burger (from $8.90) on 8 August, so keep your eyes peeled for that. On top of this unique addition, the coconut soft serve series is making a comeback on the same date! You can expect three different versions at all McDonald’s Dessert Kiosks, including the Coconut Cone (from $1.20), Coconut OREO McFlurry (from $3.60), and Coconut Hot Fudge Sundae (from $2.50).Â
In related fast food news, KFC has launched their Mala Goldspice Chicken for a limited time! This new flavour stars salted egg fried chicken with a tinge of spicy mala.
Another must-try launch this National Day is Mister Donut and Ya Kun Kaya Toast’s limited-edition kaya and kopi doughnuts, which will be available for the month of August.
