Another one bites the dust: New Scissor-Cut Curry Rice is set to close for good on 12 May 2025. This popular supper spot in Geylang—unrelated to the similarly named Beach Road Scissors-Cut Curry Rice—has been operating for 30 years, and its closure is sure to leave a void for longtime patrons.

The eatery announced its impending closure on 14 April 2025 with the following statement on Facebook:

“We have an important announcement to share. Due to a number of challenges, we have made the difficult decision to wind down our business after 30 years of service. Our final day of operation will be 12th May 2025. We are incredibly grateful for your loyalty and support over the past three decades. It has truly been an honor to serve you. Thank you for being a part of our journey.”

In a follow-up post, the eatery specified that “there will be no successor or takeover”, dashing hopes of a reemergence of some kind.

There’s just slightly longer than a week to get that last taste of New Scissor-Cut Curry Rice, so you might want to consider dropping by soon! We hear that a plate of curry rice with some egg, vegetables, and their beloved pork chop still costs under $5, which is a good deal in this economy.
