Nico Cafe: New Garden Cafe Opens In Orchard With Souffle Pancakes And Coconut Latte

Nico Cafe opens at Wheelock Place with popular fluffy pancakes

Nico Cafe, formerly known as Cafe de Nicole’s Flower, has just opened a gorgeous alfresco outlet with a refreshed menu and floral-themed setting! It’s located at Wheelock Place, right in front of The Zall Bookstore.

In the era of Instagrammable cafes that often favour minimalist aesthetics, Nico Cafe effortlessly stands out with their Parisian-inspired decor, garden-like interiors, and whimsical feature wall instead. The wall is adorned with old, weathered books, creating a cosy nook. Otherwise, the rattan counter seats, nestled under a drapery of ferns and vines, are a good spot for people-watching.

The cafe is most known for their signature souffle pancakes, namely the Original Souffle Pancakes ($17.90++), served with homemade sweet cream and seasonal fruits, accompanied by a side of maple syrup.

For something more fruity, try their Mixed Berries Pancake ($21.90++) instead. The same soft and fluffy pancakes are topped with a berries sauce, along with fresh blueberries and a scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream.

If you’re in the mood for more than just pancakes, order something from the cafe’s selection of open-face toasts. We tried the Crowne Madame ($12.90++), a hearty French-inspired sandwich layered with butter, melted cheese, ham, and a fried egg. If you prefer to skip the fried egg, you can get the Croque Monsieur ($12.90++) instead, or opt for the Guacamole with Marinated Cherry Toast ($11.90++) for something more refreshing.

We also loved their indulgent Basque Burnt Cheesecake ($10.90++), which was soft and velvety with every bite. This, and Nico Cafe’s other house-made bakes, including the Tiramisu Cake ($10.90++) and Strawberry Shortcake ($10.90++), are great for those craving something sweet, but not too cloying.

If the Singapore heat gets too hot to handle, retreat indoors to The Zall Bookstore. Here, you can order drinks from Nico Cafe and enjoy them with a good book. We ordered a bottle of citrusy Yuzu Rose ($8.90++) tea, as well as the creamy yet refreshing Dirty Coconut Coffee ($8.90++).

For more garden-themed cafes, check out Le Jardin at Fort Canning for brunch staples and plated desserts. Otherwise, read our Orchard food guide for good food in the area, including crispy Thai pork belly, personal hotpot and more.
