10 One-north Food Places That Prove It’s Way More Than A Science Hub

Rangers of the (one-)north

Despite its name, one-north isn’t near Woodlands or Sembawang at all. Instead, it’s located towards the bottom of our island, near NUS. Within the area lies a collection of tech, science and R&D facilities.

But that doesn’t mean it’s all work and no play. one-north – yes, that’s how the name is supposed to be capitalised – isn’t just filled with staff canteens of cai fan (mixed rice) stalls repeated ad nauseam. From Turkish food to classic cafes, this place has it all, so dive into this list to check out 10 places we’ve compiled for all you foodies.

1. Bread Yard

Bread Yard is a great cafe for you to sit back, relax and munch. With a menu that includes both classic brunch items such as Candied Bacon and Grilled Cheese Pancakes ($12) and more substantial mains such as Steak and Eggs ($18), you can be sure to find something for you here. But much like their name suggests, the standout at this cafe is their house-made bread, so don’t leave before trying one of their fantastic sandwiches.

2. Iskina Cebu Singapore

With an array of stalls at Timbre+, it is almost too easy to miss out on Iskina Cebu. This Filipino stall serves lechon, a roast pork dish that reminds me of sio bak. For a classic experience, opt for Lechon de Cebu ($10) that comes with juicy pieces of pork and flavour-filled crispy pork skin. Or, be greedy and opt for a Triple Lechon Sampler ($15), which includes lechon, cuts of pork belly, and roast chicken!

Finish off your meal with an iced coffee, while looking out for celebs emerging from the nearby Mediacorp building.

If you’re a sucker for a good bowl of poké, the fresh and well-marinated fish cubes and excellent sides at Katto won’t disappoint. For those who have a taste for adventure, try their Chicken Rice Chili Salmon that delivers a satisfying spicy kick. With prices for a bowl starting at $7.90, Katto is not only delicious, but also affordable for a poké bowl. Whatever greens you choose though, don’t miss out on the Miso Butter Corn that regulars swear by!

7. Arkadaş Cafe

Ditch the occasional skinny kebab at neighbourhood pasar malams and grab some proper Turkish food instead. Serving flavourful and affordable Turkish fare, Arkadaş Cafe is suited for those who love their meat. Apart from the usual Doner Kebab ($8+), leave some stomach space for these must-haves: Houmus with Pita Bread ($6.90+), Turkish Pide ($13.90+) and the cheesy Chicken Musakka ($12.90). If you’re lucky, you might even get a complimentary slice of baklava!

8. STYLE by STYLE VIBES Café

Located within the Mediacorp campus, STYLE by STYLE VIBES Cafe is perfect for celebrity-hunters. We hear owner Sharon Au drops by every morning for breakfast. Expect light bites such as Tuna Croissant Sandwich ($8.90) and hearty mains such as Mushroom and Chicken Pizza ($10.90/$14.90). But the real highlights here are their Singapore-inspired desserts, such as Ondeh Ondeh Cake ($6.90) and Durian Pandan Kaya Cake ($7.90).

9. Tuk-Tuk Viethai Cuisine

Another gem at Timbre+ is Tuk-Tuk. This bowl of Stew Beef Pho ($10.90) is light, yet filled with flavour thanks to the myriad of herbs used. They’re generous with the amount of rice noodles and the portion of beef slices is decent too. No MSG is used, so health-conscious ones can dig in without worries!

10. Hoodadak Korean Fusion Dining Room

Source

Hoodadak Korean Fusion Dining Room is reserved for days you want a feast. Apart from usual suspects such as Kimbap ($6++), Bibimbap ($12++) and Korean Army Stew ($20++), this eatery also lives up the “fusion” in its name with dishes such as Bulbogi Fries ($17++) and Carbonara Ramyeon ($12++). Instant noodles served a la carbonara might sound absurd, but we say don’t hit it till you try it.

Address: 1 Fusionopolis Link, #01-10, Galaxis, Singapore 138632
Opening hours: Mon-Sat 11:30am to 2:30pm, 5:30pm to 10pm

Head north

In case you missed it, one-north’s unique name contains a hidden reference to our little island. Singapore is located largely one degree north of the equator, which makes the area possibly the greatest Easter egg in Singapore’s history. Let us know if we missed out your favourite eating spot at one-north!
