Get Bak Kwa Croissants, Truffle Lobster Prawn Rolls And More At This MBS Bakery

Origin + Bloom at MBS has bak kwa croissants

Croissants seem to have taken the food world by storm this year, with notable mentions including the TikTok-viral creme croissants, otherwise known as croons. If you’d like to try another interesting spin on the pastry, head down to Origin + Bloom, a bakery in Marina Bay Sands, for their unique bak kwa croissants.

Origin + Bloom is led by Chef Antonio Benites, a Peruvian pastry chef who used to work at luxury bakeries such as Ladurée and Pierre Hermé in Paris. Here, you’ll find plenty of splendid gourmet bread, pastries, and desserts.

Their newest addition, the Bak Kwa Croissant ($5.50), sports a flaky and buttery exterior covered in pork floss, and is stuffed generously with sweet and savoury bak kwa chunks. For the perfect accompaniment, grab a cup of hot or iced coffee to go with your croissant, with prices starting from $5. Popular drinks here include Iced Mocha ($6.50) or the Speculoos Latte ($7)!

If you’re not a fan of croissants, fret not, for Origin + Bloom’s cakes are just as good. Dig into the Charlotte ($9), a dessert starring pistachio mousse and fresh berries atop a delicate sponge cake base.

The Mango ($10), which resembles an actual mango, is one that’s perfect for the ‘gram. It features a passion fruit-lychee centre with mango mousse, encased in a yellow chocolate shell. This refreshing and fruity dessert is enhanced with hints of Sarawak pepper, which is said to be slightly floral and woodsy.

Choco-holics should definitely go for the Black Symphony ($10), a rich and intense dessert featuring a dark chocolate pecan brownie, chocolate mousse, and salted caramel bits covered in chocolate ganache.

If those aren’t enough, they’ve also got gourmet sandwiches, available from 10:30am. The chef’s recommended Lobster & Prawn Roll with Truffle ($23) boasts thick chunks of lobster and prawns tossed in an avocado-mayonnaise sauce and garnished with slices of actual black truffle for a most luxurious finish.

For more patisseries to check out, head down to LUNA patisserie at their new Joo Chiat outlet for strawberry rhubarb tarts and more. Alternatively, read our guide to the best restaurants in Marina Bay Sands for NY-famous pizza and meals under $50!
