McDonald’s is adding a new permanent dish to its breakfast menu, created by Soup Spoon founder Anna Lim, and it’s none other than Red Rice Porridge ($3.40 for a la carte). You can order the porridge in a set meal at $5.80, and it includes a coffee or tea and a choice between Hashbrown and Corn Cup.
Available for breakfast from 5 April 2018 onwards at all McDonald’s outlets, it’s definitely one nutritious morning meal you shouldn’t miss out on.
Now, I know what you’re thinking – it looks so healthy! Loaded with shiitake mushrooms, bean curd, sweet potato, goji berries and corn, this vegan Red Rice Porridge is indeed packed with plenty of nutrients and fibre. One serving contains less than 150 calories.
However, despite it being vegetarian, the Red Rice Porridge doesn’t compromise on flavour. There’s a slight nutty flavour derived from the red rice, and the porridge on a whole is bursting with umami. The addition of corn also provides a juicy crunch to the dish. If you’re curious about how this tastes, pop by a McDonald’s outlet or get it on McDelivery tomorrow!
