This Yishun Coffeeshop Has A New Korean Street Food Stall That’s Muslim-Friendly

Helmed by the same folks behind Muslim-friendly Korean restaurant Meokja by JUNGGA, Sangwoo Street is a new stall in Yishun that specialises in affordable Korean street food, such as crowd favourites tteokbokki and kimbap.

Their Tteokbokki ($5) is cooked in an actual stainless steel Korean rice cake maker, which is a common sight along the streets and traditional markets in Korea. The hallmarks of tteokbokki are rice and fish cakes doused in spicy gochujang sauce, and that’s exactly what you get here.

Kimbap is indispensable to the discussion of Korean street food. You get a variety of flavours at Sangwon Street, such as their Bulgogi Kimbap ($7), Chamchi Kimbap ($6.50), and Saewoo Kimbap ($7). The first features marinated beef, while the second dish has tuna in it. The third kimbap uses shrimp as the main ingredient.

It’s an unspoken rule among Koreans to always get tteokbokki and kimbap together as these two dishes are the perfect pairing for each other. Also, we highly recommend dipping the kimbap in the spicy rice cake sauce if you love big flavours.

Another must-have item when it comes to Korean street food is Twigim (price TBD), which simply means fried food. Since Sangwoo Street kickstarted their business a few days ago, we don’t have much information about this dish on hand. But one thing’s for certain—your Korean street food experience isn’t complete without these deep-fried snacks, so make sure you order them when you’re there!

As the eatery is newly opened, some items on their menu might not be available yet. We encourage you to get more updates on their Instagram page to avoid any disappointment.

If you’re a fan of kimbap, check out SSADA GIMBAB, a Korean restaurant in Beauty World that has mala kimbap, curry tonkatsu and more. Alternatively, you can visit Kim Dae Mun for affordable Korean food at Orchard.
