Shawarma Shack opens in Singapore with famous wraps

Shawarma Shack, the Philippines’ largest shawarma chain with over 850 outlets, has opened its first overseas branch here in Singapore! Located at Toa Payoh Central near HDB Hub, the kiosk offers its signature wraps, rice boxes and more.

The chain first started in 2015 as a humble night market kiosk in Manila. They became popular for their affordable yet hearty meals, priced from just $5.80 at the new Singapore outpost.

Their most popular items are the Signature Chicken Shawarma (from $5.80) and Loaded Beef Shawarma (from $6.30), both available in jumbo sizes for an additional charge.

While we thought they were generous with the garlic and cheese sauces in the wraps, that was not the case for the meats. They also lacked the grilled, smoky flavour present in authentic shawarma, not to mention that the meat pieces were a bit dry. The jumbo wrap was not much bigger than the regular size, given the additional cost.

Their most enjoyable offering, by far, was the Classic Boasted Chicken Leg Quarter (from $10.50), which we had with rice.

The massive chicken leg was amazingly crispy yet tender. While pretty oily, we didn’t find it too jelak overall. The huge portion and succulent chicken leg made this dish a winner.

We also tried their Original Beef Shawarma Nachos ($8.80), which came with a large portion of minced shawarma meat, nacho cheese, and garlic sauce.

We had the same complaints as the shawarma wraps: the meat was tough and lacked flavour, and the portion sizes did not reflect the high price of the dish.

Their Potato Popcorn ($3.50) was a light bite, which we had in their Sour Cream and Onion flavour. While the sour cream and onion powder were rather light, the fried taters were quite addictive as a snack.

You can also get salads topped with their shawarma, such as the Chicken Caesar Salad ($6), or other sides, such as the Sloppy Fries (from $5).

The new kiosk sits opposite Toa Payoh’s HDB Hub, which is directly connected to Toa Payoh MRT Station. There’ll be another outlet slated to open in October 2025 in Potong Pasir, so stay tuned for that!

In other food news, the Jurong Point Food Feastival is back until 7 September, so Westies might not want to miss out on that. You can also check out the “keto” bak chor me at QiYin Teochew Minced Meat Noodle, which comes with a copious amount of fried pork lard.
