Folks living in the vicinity of Jurong West 505 Food Centre are lucky as the hawker centre is a paradise for all foodies. Take Soh Kee Cooked Food as an example—this stall sells old-school Cantonese porridge from a wallet-friendly $2.50. They were also awarded the Michelin Bib Gourmand award for three consecutive years since 2021!Â

Their porridge comes in three different flavours: Chicken Porridge ($2.50), Fish Porridge ($3.50), and Cuttlefish Porridge ($3.50). Many online reviews point to the fact that this Cantonese-style porridge AKA jook is easy on the stomach, as it’s creamy yet slightly watery. It’s also said to be really soft and smooth with some bits of grain! Topped with a drizzle of sesame oil and soya sauce, their old-school porridge is a simple yet moreish dish. You can pay an additional $0.50 to add an egg.

You can make it a set for $4.50, which comprises a bowl of porridge, and a plate of chicken. The chicken here is tender and juicy with a touch of sesame oil.

Alternatively, there are 2 Pax ($9) and 3 Pax ($14.50) sets that are great for sharing with your friends and family.Â

You can also get a whole chicken for $26, while half a chicken is priced at $13!Â
Alternatively, if you’re a fan of chicken rice, definitely pay Hoe Kee Kitchen a visit. This Michelin-approved chicken rice stall is located in the same hawker centre, and always has a snaking queue as soon as the stall opens for the day.
