Viral Korean Bakery Standard Bread Opens At RWS With $14 Loaves—Worth It Or Not?

Standard Bread is a popular Korean bakery at Weave RWS

Bread lovers, we’ve got news for you. Standard Bread, a famous bakery from Korea, has launched its first international outpost at Resorts World Sentosa (RWS)‘s new lifestyle destination, Weave mall.

For the uninitiated, Standard Bread is known for its freshly baked breads and rustic cottagecore ambience. Though fairly new to Seoul—the brand only launched in September 2024—they’ve garnered an online fanbase, with close to 20K followers at the point of writing. But are they really worth the hype? We visited their RWS outlet to find out.

Food at Standard Bread Singapore

Upon entering the bakery-cafe, we were greeted by the sights and smells of Standard Bread’s famed loaves, neatly laid out for us to browse and pick from.

We picked two flavours: the Salted Butter Bread ($14+) and Basil Tomato Bread ($14+). At first blush, the loaves looked promising, with a beautiful golden brown crust that instantly had us going in for a bite.

We loved the texture of the Salted Butter Bread. Its crust was subtly crisp, giving way to a gentle chewiness. Tearing into the loaf, it revealed a fluffy and light texture within, and we found the textural contrast delightfully satisfying.

While the texture was spot on, its flavour, sadly, fell short of expectations. Despite its name, the loaf carried only a hint of salt, with the boldest flavour coming from the sprinkle of sea salt atop.

Since it was quite bland on its own, I enjoyed dipping the loaf into the Earl Grey Milk Tea Spread. The spread was creamy and fragrant, adding a sweet touch to the bread. That said, their selection of spreads and jams is priced at $3+ each, for a small, half-filled cup. This is a relatively pricey addition, and we recommend getting it only if you like dipping sauces with your bread.

We were more excited to try the Basil Tomato Bread, which was filled with gooey cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, and basil.

Despite being packed with all kinds of ingredients, we found that its flavour was a bit milder than we’d hoped for. If we had to pick just one between the two loaves, though, we’d go with the Basil Tomato Bread as it’s more fragrant, with its fluffy yet chewy texture being a highlight.

Moving on, we tried a few brunch items, too, including the Pistachio French Toast ($22+). Served in a cast-iron skillet, it came with a thick toast drenched in a vibrant green pistachio cream, finished with a generous sprinkle of coarsely crushed pistachio and a slab of garlic butter.

Before it was served, we caught a glimpse of the toast being flambéd to achieve a crisp, caramelised crust.

We enjoyed the fluffy yet crisp toast with the crushed nuts and smooth pistachio cream, which added an earthy richness to the sticky-sweet delight. The nuts also lent a nice chunky crunch, making each bite more satisfying. However, with all its sweet components, the dish got quite cloying after a while.

We also had to try the Singapore-exclusive Maple Bacon Toast ($19+), featuring a pile of garlic toast and thick bacon strips, topped with crushed pistachios, and a side of maple syrup.

The biscuit-like toast was crispy and carried a hint of garlic that added a depth of flavour without being overpowering.

The bacon strips were thick, tender, and wonderfully juicy, with the fat melting away after only a few chews. Sprinkled with pistachios, each bite offered a satisfying contrast between the succulent meat and crunchy nuts. We also thought the maple syrup tied everything together for a tasty balance between sweet and savoury flavours.

Alas, this indulgent combination became cloying towards the end, and it would have been better with a tangy or spicy addition, such as wholegrain mustard, to cut through the greasiness.

We also tried the Truffle Mushroom Soup ($11.90+). If you love anything with truffle, this is for you, as the creamy soup was earthy and aromatic, with bits of shredded mushrooms within. Though small in size, we enjoyed it between bites of the rich mains.

They also offer drinks such as the crowd-favourite Iced Standard Cream Mocha ($10.90+). It was smooth and creamy, with hints of bittersweet cocoa from the grated chocolate. Light and refreshing, it was an ideal way to round off the rich, indulgent meal. Our only gripe is the steep price for a regular cup of this beverage.

Ambience at Standard Bread Singapore

The bakery-cafe offers a cosy area to chill and chat, accommodating around 45 diners in the indoor space and eight more at the breezy al fresco seating area. From the comforting smell of fresh bakes and the gentle dripping of the indoor waterwheel, to the rustic cottagecore aesthetic of the wooden and brick elements, you won’t get anything similar to this vibe elsewhere.

Standard Bread is located at Weave, a four-minute walk from Sentosa Express’ Resorts World Station.

Standard Bread Singapore – Eatbook Review

Overall, Standard Bread didn’t quite live up to the hype we were hoping for. Their bakes weren’t bad, but they fell short of expectations, and prices felt steep for the flavours and portion sizes. Let’s just say, they won’t be something we’d make a special trip to Sentosa for, unless the bakery rolls out new items that we think are worth another visit!
