From cute Milo plushies to sushi-shaped sling bags, blind boxes have been all the rage. But as adorable as these food-themed collectibles are, you can’t exactly take a bite out of them—until now. Enter Taco Liberation Co, a new hawker stall by ex-Candlenut chef Veronica Liew and ex-navy cook Ong Ziqi. This Amoy Street Food Centre stall has gone viral for its unique taco blind boxes, priced from just $2.30!
While they don’t offer a fixed menu, you can choose from three types of taco blind boxes: the Veggies Box ($5.90 for two, $6.90 for three), Meat box ($8.50 for two, $9.90 for three), and Mixed Box, priced at $7.90 for one meat and one veggie taco, and $8.90 for two meat and one veggie tacos. This means that you can enjoy a delicious taco for as low as $2.30 a piece!
Flavours here change weekly and are based on the ingredients the duo comes across at their local supermarket and suppliers, running almost like an omakase. This means there’s almost always something new on every visit. That said, they do not offer beef or seafood options due to cost and allergy considerations.
Past iterations include the Hong Zao Ji Taco, starring tender, juicy chunks of chicken in a mildly spicy sauce made with hong zao, AKA red glutinous wine lees, topped with shredded lettuce, coriander, juicy tomatoes, onions, and oozy cheddar cheese, all wrapped in a soft flour tortilla.
The Bulgogi Chicken Taco is another standout, featuring succulent chicken cooked in a house-made sweet-savoury bulgogi sauce, garnished with fresh coriander, salsa, and cheese in the same flour tortilla.
The Potato Taco is another great alternative, loaded with fried mini potato cubes, fresh lettuce, salsa, and cheese, before it’s drizzled with a creamy, cumin-heavy spiced mayo.
Besides their hawker stall at Amoy Street Food Centre, you can also find them at their home-based outlet at 668 Choa Chu Kang Crescent in Yew Tee. Do note that this outlet operates solely on a self-pickup and delivery basis, with orders placed through their GrabFood platform or Telegram channel.
