Taiwan Culture is a new restaurant at Changi Airport T2Â
The East might be quite out of the way for some, but those who stay near Changi Airport can rejoice: a new restaurant, Taiwan Culture, just opened at Changi Airport Terminal 2’s Departure Hall, serving Taiwanese street food with side dishes that rotate weekly!Â
Swensen’s Unlimited: $31++ Buffet With Free-Flow Seafood And More In Changi
Taiwan Culture is opened by the same people behind Penang Culture, a popular eatery serving authentic Penang cuisine. With that as our benchmark, my colleague and I decided to head down to check out this new restaurant.
Food at Taiwan Culture
We started our meal with the Assorted Braised Beef La Mian ($18.90++), which had generous chunks of braised beef and flat noodles.Â
My colleague and I liked the thick consistency of the broth, which was filled with a rich beefy flavour. However, we found the noodles to be quite doughy, making it difficult to finish. Luckily, the braised beef made up for this—it was quite tender and flavourful, and so my colleague and I finished every piece in no time.Â
Another main we tried was the Sesame Chicken La Mian with Salted Pepper Crispy Chicken ($14.90++).
Compared to the beef la mian, the soup here had a more robust flavour than in the previous dish. The star, however, was the salted pepper crispy chicken, which was served on the side to ensure it retained its crispy exterior. The chicken was very well seasoned, my colleague and I could not stop munching on this!
My favourite out of all the dishes I tried was the Seafood Omelette Rice ($9.90++).Â
Each bowl was coated evenly with a savoury sauce that was full of umami, and the omelette was super creamy and runny, just the way I liked it. There was also a generous serving of prawns, which we found to be juicy and fresh. Â
For sides, we got the Hokkaido Crab Stick with Mentaiko ($8.90++) to share. Each order comes with two portions!Â
Apart from the generous serving of mentaiko sauce, there is nothing much to shout about this dish. However, I would recommend this if you want something small to munch on while waiting for your mains.Â
Another side we got was the French Onion Salad ($7.90++). You literally get what the name suggests, so I would only recommend this if you’re a huge fan of onions!Â
Lastly, my colleague and I ended our meal with the Strawberry Shaved Ice ($8.90++). This dessert dish featured a substantial amount of real strawberries topped with strawberry-flavoured shaved ice. It was rather refreshing and reminded us of Meiji’s strawberry milk, making it the perfect dessert in this hot weather.Â
Ambience at Taiwan Culture
The restaurant uses warm lighting to emulate a cosy and inviting atmosphere, where customers can bring family and friends to catch up over lunch or dinner. There are also several traditional Taiwanese pictures to emulate the atmosphere of typical Taiwanese diners.Â
There is ample seating available: the restaurant can accommodate around 70-75 customers at once. Taiwan Culture sits on the third floor of Changi Airport Terminal 2 Departure Hall, a quick five-minute walk from Changi Airport MRT Station.Â
The verdictÂ
All in all, I would recommend this restaurant if you’re looking for a no-frills Taiwanese eatery. The place can get quite crowded during peak hours, so I suggest coming down earlier to prevent waiting.Â
