Tampines East Food Guide: 10 Places For Affordable Western Food, Late-Night Dessert And More

Tampines East food guide

Tampines now has three MRT Stations: Tampines, Tampines East, and Tampines West. Since the opening of these train stations, travelling to both ends of Tampines has been made much easier, especially when it comes to accessing lesser-known eateries. Skip the hunt as we have crafted a Tampines East food guide for you.

1. New Deli Bakery

New Deli Bakery started as a home-based business before opening an under-HDB store in Tampines in 2023. You know their goods are the real deal as they’re run by a baker who used to work at Tiong Bahru Bakery! Some of their mainstays include Vanilla Kouign Aman ($4.80), Chocolate Croissant ($4.80), and Cinnamon Spiral ($4.80), but if you’d like to try something different each time you visit, go for whatever’s on their Today’s Specials list. Some items that have been on the menu are Cinnamon Latte (from $5.80) and Matcha Croissant Almond ($6.80)

There are more than 15 types of prata here, starting from the most classic Plain Prata at $1.40, and sweet-savoury options such as Egg Onion Prata ($3.10) and Ice Cream Paper Prata ($9.50). If prata isn’t your thing, consider getting one of their murtabak options. There are four fillings to choose from: Sardine ($10), Chicken ($11), Mutton ($11), and Vegetarian ($10)

3. Tipsy Penguin

Tipsy Penguin is the perfect spot for corporate lunches, family dinners, and late-night hangouts. We recommend starting with the Tipsy Tapas, where you can mix and match any two appetisers for $24++. Of the nine choices, the Cajun and Garlic Thunder Fries and Crispy Fish Skin with Rojak Sauce caught our attention as we’ve never seen anything like these elsewhere. For mains, you can’t go wrong with Moonlight Truffle Beef Horfun ($25++), a signature dish comprising tender beef striploin, an onsen egg, and charred flat rice noodles.

Address: 300 Tampines Avenue 5, #01-02A, Singapore 529653
Opening hours: Sun-Thurs 12pm to 1am, Fri-Sat 12pm to 2am

4. Craze Kitchen

For affordable Western food at nett prices, head to Craze Kitchen. There’s surely something for everyone here, as their extensive menu sees plenty of sides and mains. Get started with some Twister Prawns ($7.50) to share with your dining companion(s). An order comes with six pieces of deep-fried prawns, paired with their house-made sambal. We get that not everyone likes seafood, and if you’re one of them, opt for the Signature Chicken Wings ($5 for two) instead. Then, enjoy their popular Prawn Laksa Pasta ($15.50) or Mala Beef Pasta ($18); only get the latter if you can take a bit of numbing spice.

Address: 201D Tampines Street 21, #01-1171, Singapore 524201

5. Toko Burgers

Toko Burgers is a casual kiosk in Tampines East with wallet-friendly burgers. Their signature burger is the Cowboy ($10.50), featuring a tender, juicy beef patty slathered with sweet-savoury BBQ sauce, smoky cheddar, onion rings, and turkey bacon slice, sandwiched between two soft buns. There are simpler options too; Fun Guy ($8.50) is a great example, combining a deep-fried crispy fried chicken patty with mushrooms, aioli, and lettuce. You should get a side with your burger, so we recommend the Corn Chips ($2) or Tater Puffs ($2.50) if you want something different from the usual fries or onion rings. FYI, Toko Burgers is a Muslim-owned eatery, making it the ideal spot to swing by with your Muslim friends.

Address: 201D Tampines Street 21, #01-1155, Singapore 524201
Opening hours: Sun-Thurs 3pm to 12:45am, Fri-Sat 3pm to 1:45am

If you love ice cream and waffles as much as we do, head to this dessert cafe in Tampines East that opens till 1am on selected days. Delato serves your usual gelato and waffles alongside drinks and hot finger foods. A Standard Scoop costs $4.20, while a Premium Scoop costs $5, and you can complete the experience with an Original Waffle ($6). There’s even a Prata Waffle ($3.50) that looks like a crispy croffle, best eaten with a scoop or two of gelato. Besides caffeinated drinks, check out their Soda Float in four different flavours, all priced at $6.90 each: grape, orange, strawberry, and root beer

7. 3 Meals A Day

3 Meals A Day needs no introduction, especially to those who love a good salted egg chicken rice. There’s one in Tampines East, where you can enjoy a delicious meal under $10. Their steady seller is, of course, the Creamy Salted Egg Chicken Rice ($7), but there’s also Salted Egg Pork Ribs Rice ($7) if pork is your preferred choice of protein. We recommend adding a sunny-side-up egg for an additional $0.80 to add extra richness to your rice. Meats aside, the Stir Fried Slice Fish with Ginger and Spring Onion Rice ($6.50) is another popular option, where fragrant ginger slices are added to help cut through any fishy aftertaste.

8. Afghanistan Family Restaurant

Another Muslim-owned eatery on our list is Afghanistan Family Restaurant, a spot that’s popular among Tampines East residents. The first time our team tried kacang phool was at Restoran Kacang Pool Haji in JB, where we fell in love with the frangrant bean stew dish. If you’d like to give it a try, you can have it in Singapore, at Afghanistan Family Restaurant! Otherwise, get their fritters on the go—there are banana and jackfruit, among others. As for prices, please check with the staff as we don’t have their updated menu on hand yet.

9. World Tea House

Bubble tea is getting increasingly expensive in Singapore, but there are exceptions where prices are still affordable for the masses. World Tea House is one such place, where a medium-sized Milk Tea costs just $2.40. You can add toppings to your liking too; there are eight choices priced at $0.50 each, while the remaining five cost $1 each. The cheaper alternatives include taro, pearl, pudding, and coconut jelly, whereas the latter includes mochi, cheese, and crystal ball. What’s also interesting is that their menu is split into different series: Fresh Fruit, Thick Cheese, and Yogurt are just some examples. If you’re considering their Thick Cheese series, the Oreo Cocoa Milk with Cheese ($4.90) might be worth a shot.

10. Timestealer Cafe

Family-owned Timestealer Cafe serves up simple, homely dishes all under $15. Even better, there are breakfast, lunch, and dinner options depending on the time of your visit. If you’re dropping by to grab a quick brekkie, there are loaded croissants in flavours such as Egg Mayo ($7) and Tuna ($7.50). For more filling choices, order a bowl of Yakitori Chicken Don for only $6.80, or get the Battered Fish Rice Bowl, priced at $5.80. Don’t worry if time isn’t in your favour, as you can place orders online before heading down.
